Unless you are using a tripod, or sand bags, it is very near impossible to keep the gun still. However, it is much easier to move the gun. Let the gun move back and forth across your target and squeeze the trigger when the target is in your site. It helps if you hold your breath..

How is your firing stance? Of all of the ways to fire standing, the isoceles stance is by far the best. From the shoulders down, it's the same for pistols and rifle, and it works great.

Put your feet shoulder-width apart, toes pointing towards the target. Bend your knees, stick out your butt and lean forwar keeping your back straight. If you do it right, you'll be feeling the strain in your thighs, abs and the muscles at the small of your back. Keep your shoulders square to the target, very important. And then, you position your weapon.

If using a rifle, you want the stock resting on meat, not bone. Closer to the inside of your chest is better. Once you find the right spot (little different for everyone), practice getting to it every single time. Remember to keep your elbows tucked in when you do this. If you're wearing tactical gear, it will be even easier because your trigger-hand elbow will be resting against it, nice and strong and stable.

If using a pistol, it's about grip. Grip strength is mainly supplied by the supporting hand, not the trigger hand. when you present, keep your arms straight with a very slight bend in the elbows, the weapon lined up with your centerline. Once more, remember the isoceles stance.

Before you take any shot, sort yourself out from the ground up and it will help.

If you start shaking, start making small circles, a spiral if you like, around your target. Motion you can control, shaking you can't, and when your sights line up with your target, gently squeeze the trigger.

And take breaks when firing. If the shaking becomes too bad, lower your weapon for 15 seconds or so and try again.

well first off, try not to eat any sugar, or food that contains sugar prior to going to the range, and when you position yourself, apply the fundamentals, steady aim breathe squeeze, i am guessing you are firing either an M4 or M16, your left arm should be place right under the upper receiver with your left hand cup in a ''U shape'', make sure your elbow is directly underneath the upper receiver, and with the butt stock off the weapon firmly press into your shoulder, i apply strength a lil here for added stability, then the fundamentals will guide you from there, oh and if you are still shaking, like noticibalbe shaking , then i would guess its a medical problem instead of your technique, try and keep a calm and clear mind too, that helps

Extend your weapon hand straight out, make a cup with the other hand palm up, keeping your weapon arm straight, place the butt of your weapon into the cuped hand and squeeze the weapon hand using light pressure, this will help stabilize
your weapon hand.
Good Shooting !

Part of it is hand and forearm strength -- so exercises to strengthen the fingers, wrist and forearms.

Part of it is stamina -- getting used to the recoil.

The rest is learning the timing, so that you can tense and relax at the right times to conserve your strength and get the maximum benefit -- just like any other form of exercise.
