Im having a problem with my 3 year old son. He pees in the toilet with no problem. He tells me when he has to go and rarely has an accident. Going number 2 is the problem. If I put underpants on him he won't do number 2 in them but he will hold it for days. I will try to coax him into going on the toilet but he won't. I don't mind if he has an accident but he won't, he holds it. Today was the longest he went, 5 days, I put a diaper on him and he went in the diaper. Im scared he is going to give himself a bowel obstruction or something. I dont want to keep diapers on him and have him revert back to square one. Anyone have this happen? Any suggestions?

He's not scared of the toilet or flushing it.. He's actually a little flush happy. We've retrieved a few items from the toilet already.

This can be normal. If a kid your son's age has one painful or scary BM, they'll hold future ones until they're going to bust because they're afraid they're all going to hurt.
Try this:
Next time you notice him holding, run him a warm bath with 2 oz of baking soda in the tub. Give him some tub toys and let him play for up to 30 minutes. The warm water and the baking soda will help him relax and go. (If he goes in the tub, it's not the end of the world. It's cleanable!) Most kids will either go in the tub or get themselves out to go.

To try to avoid this problem - try to get him in the habit of going. Have him sit on the bowl for 15 minutes after meals. Eventually his body will react and go.

Here's the other thing to watch- some kids are afraid that they'll be flushed too.... Try a non-flushing potty chair if you have to.

Good luck!!!

Ok, I know what your going through. I have just started to potty train my 28 month old son. He doesn't tell me when he has to go but he will wait for me to take him to the bathroom and he will go pee on the potty but he won't go poop. I have underwear on him and he won't go poop in them and he wont go on the toilet either. He only goes when he has a diaper on.
I am in the same situation. I don't know what to do either.
What I do is I keep a diaper on him for an hour or two when he gets up in the morning, and then he tends to have a bowl movement and then he wears underwear the rest of the day and he wears a diaper to bed at night.
You might try doing that. He will eventually learn to go poop in the toilet.

This is nearly a brand new born dog. Their bladders don't end up managed in an issue of days. They are like human infants. No manage over the bladder. It takes a 12 months of tons of injuries and taking her out throughout the day each and every hour and night time time each and every hour. Take her external after meals, if she does not anything 10 minutes later again in, then out once more five minutes later. If you trap her within the act, you lightly however firmly say no as you're opting for her up, then as you convey her external you assert well woman pass rest room external. Keep doing this, day in day trip night time in night time out.. It takes time and persistence. And I recognize a few puppies magically end up condo knowledgeable very speedily however the giant majority don't. Also feed the dog at set occasions, so she will keep watch over. I have on no account crate knowledgeable. Puppies this age are not able to keep longer than a million-two hours, so if you don't take her external each day and night time on an hourly shedule, you are going to discover mess. She are not able to keep it, it has to return out.

Oh my gosh! He can't hold it that long, it's really bad for him the toxins might poison his body! I have to put my son on the potty for sometimes almost 1 hour before he'll poop on the potty. While on the potty we play games and talk about how big boys and girls go poo poo on the potty. We also sing and make pooping on the potty a fun game and once he's finished he gets to flush (fun) and wash his hands (fun fun). Also make sure that he's not constipated, sometimes it hurts them to go and they hold it. If this is the case try giving 500 - 1000 mg of vitiman C until it's soft. Good Luck!
