Of course he might die in his 20's.

He might also die in his 30's.

He might even die in his 90's.

However, if he continues to smoke all that time, I'm sure his lifespan is not going to be through to his 90's. Usually smokers start running into trouble in their 50's and onwards. This can either be through heart disease, chronic airways disease (emphysema or bronchitis), or lung cancer - or at least these are the most common scenarios.

There are smokers who continue into their 9th decade.

There are likewise people who die in their 20's of unrelated causes.

Given your brother's early start I would expect him to run into trouble earlier.

A friend of mine just ditched a potential boyfriend who was a smoker. He was 30 and a pack/day smoker for a good 10 or more years now. He couldn't keep up with her for a daily walk let alone anything else, is what I heard.

he might and might not....it affects people different ways. of course not smokng would be healthier but some people can't quit. my grandpa used to be a chain smoker since he was 9 or 10yrs old god i remember when i was little he would have 5 cigarettes going at a time...couple of massive heartattacks scared the s*** out of him and no more! my dad smoked alot and he quit because he has a spot on his lung-might be from smoking....

there are so many factors. i have heard of people dying young from smoking...if you want him to quit tell him it would really suck not having him around and try to help him in anyway if HE CHOOSES to quit. some people don't quit until a health scare like some in my family and some those scares are shaken off as nothing to do with the smoking. i would talk to him and let him know it is concerning you but don't push or let it become a big deal...just that you're concerned and will be there if he ever decides to quit because it is tough-i helped my dad quit!

I smoked for 33 years before quitting. I quit for health reasons. Asthma hit me hard and being short of breath. The doctor knows your brother's health. I would recommend that your brother follow the doc's advise. Smoking can and will kill anyone at any age, rather it be from heart problems, cancer, asthma, etc. Their are actually more different cancers that are caused by smoking besides lung cancer. Cancer of Pancrease, bladder cancer, throat cancer, list goes on and one. I know first hand that kicking the habit is hard and smoking is addicitive just like alcohol. It takes lots of will power. I would recommend that your brother see his doctor again for a refferal to a stop smoking clinic to see what his options are in assistance in smoking cessation program. Tell your brother that those little c's he is smoking does cause the big "C".

It all depends. Some people smoke for years and dont develop cancer. While a healthy person who doesnt smoke, end up with cancer

Or, the smoker will develop somethings wrong with them. You dont know that he WILL die in his 20's, anyone can die at any moment.

You cant say when or how he will die, dont worry about it. But smoking will likely increase the chances of him having other problems in life
