Hello
I am going to make curtains to cover the fronts of some open clothes shelves. The areas to cover are about shoulder high and 40" wide.

My plan is to make panels in a pale cream colour (I know, boring! but it's a very small room) and my question is this -

Will the panels look odd hung on a plastic rail, being as they will be flat, without the usual gathers that curtains normally have?

I would have liked to use a wooden pole, but it would have to be a really small version, ie as thick as your thumb and not the usual size. I don't think they come that narrow (not where I live anyway!).

If the shelves are set into a space with a wall either side, you could buy white extending tension rods which are thin like you want, but they have to be extended to the width of the walls and then tensed to fit. Easy to fit too. But if you don't have a wall either side I would perhaps do away with the pole all together and I would use velcro. You can buy velcro which has sticky self adhesive on one side, and the other side is to sew onto your material. Velcro is great for something like you want. Stick it on the shelf, sew it on the curtain and hey presto!! Quick removal too if you want a change.

As long as you weight the bottom of the material it will look great, otherwise it could end up looking scruffy if it doesn't hang flat. You can buy the weights by the yard at any good fabric store, they are really thin like a string of plastic coated bobbles.

Good luck.

R these already made curtains or will u b making them u'rself from jst material? U can hang them from a plastic curtain rod or some strong wire dbl up or u get find some of those clip on rings.. they go on the rod then the other end clips on the material.. .. if u want to add a bit of color.. get some clearance material at the fabric stores & add it on the bottom or every so often vertically so it would give u a bit more body..then it wouldn't look so mch like a sheet. IF u can't sew, they make this stuff call STITCH WTICHERy that u iron to pcs of material together so u can do that to add a bit of color then it won't over power the room.

I have a large closet in a small room that I hung a shower curtain and shower rod on, and it looks fine. It actually looks quite cute for the room. They are white panel shower curtain, and the rod is the white plastic spring rod. So I am sure yours will be fine. :)

Yes - but only if the material is the same. I have seen this done and it looks fine if the styles are different - but you do need to make sure they are in the same material - or it starts looking like they are just guests who have come in similar colours. To be honest though, most cheaper formal dress shops will have plenty of the same dresses which would suit bridesmaids perfectly. Good luck!

There were so many woodworking plans with this collection and you will not believe this but there are over thousands plans in the one package deal. Go here https://tr.im/x3C9D
This is really something to find that many all together. For someone like me who is just really starting to get involved with woodworking this was like letting me loose in a candy store and telling me I could have anything I wanted. That was my dream when I was a kid.

i think they will look well on the plastic rail, i can not see them on a pole though, i think you are right, and the cream will prob be enough if it is a small room, good luck!
