My brother is thinking of getting a weener dog for the house. I already have a Yorkie that is very sweet and laid back. She is not much of a fighter. I was wondering if a Weener dog would be a good dog to have liveing in the same house as a Yorkie. Thanks for the future advice!

Any dog can hurt any dog...it doesn't matter the breed. Nomatter what you get, you will have to make sure to introduce them properly, seperate thier food, etc.

Still, I think a Dachshund and a Yorkie would be a good match. My mother has a Yorkie and she gets along with my Jack Russel (who is VERY bossy) and my Lab mix...she really gets along with most dogs. They will compete for dominance, but once that is established, they should both be fine. I would worry more about the Dachshund, because they can have back issues and can injure thier backs very easily.

Depends on the dog- a yorkie could hurt a yorkie, a pitbull could hurt a yorkie or a chihuahua could hurt a yorkie. If your yorkie is laid back look on petfinder.com for a dachshunds who grew up around other dogs or find a reputable breeder who will sell you a puppy that you can raise around the yorkie.

Finding a reputable breeder with a decent price (were talking $1000+ for a pet-quality dog) is hard so I really recommend a rescue or shelter dog (not only that but you save a life).

http://www.dachshund-dca.org/kennelads.html check this page for reputable breeders or email the woman listed for a referral.

Please don't support backyard breeders- your dog could have mega health problems and they are contributing to the animal over-population problem.

May seem extreme- but the way I look at it- my baby almost died in the shelters so people could buy 'purebreds' who have less chance of being healthy than my mutt.

The only problem there would be with a Yorkie and another breed is if they feel threatened. you have to make sure the yorkie still gets plenty of attention and doesn't feel like the other dog is taking over.

Another thing i was told from a vet is, if you plan on getting a new dog and you already have a yorkie, it's best to get a dog that's younger and of the opposite sex because they wont make them feel as threatened.

Dachshunds are very territorial and selfish, but if it is a puppy, it will see that you had the Yorkie first and shouldn't be near as bad. We have two miniature dachshunds and when we got the second one, the first didn't like it at all and was sort of aggressive with the puppy. The puppy has been fine all along. I think our older one just got a little selfish and was a little bitter when he realized he wasn't the only baby in the house anymore!

As far as personalities, dachshunds can be very playful and hyper, but then they are also very cuddly and protective of their owners. I love them! Perfect mix of everything!

It really is impossible to tell until you introduce them. My advice is to put the two dogs between a door for an hour and let them get used to each other's scent. Then, put them on either side of gate or screen - something they can see through. If they seem like they are calm around each other, let them be in the same room. It can take time - at least a week before you'll know if they will really get along.

they shoudl be fine. whatever you do DONT get 2 females; spayed or not. my parents have a doberman and a springer spaniel, both spayed and same age, brought to the house same time. about 2 years later, the springer all of a sudden started to attack; and i mean really attack; my dad, 6'3" and 250lbs had trouble getting them apart! and they vet said its merely 2 females together, even when they are fixed, females get VERY territorial. a male and a female are best together, but make sure both are fixed.

well if you have had the puppy for a long amount of time, they begin to feel teritorial. But if you hold them on a leash and let them sniff eachother it would make things better. I think they should be fine though.

as long as any dog is trained correctly, it doesn't matter if you put a pit bull with a yorkie..its all in how they are trained..as long as she is spayed and the dachshund is neutered/spayed then you will be fine and take him/her to training classes..

It depends on the dog. You have to let the two dogs meet on neutral ground first.
