It depends on the amount. If it were a large amount say 10 million or so. I would first pay off the mortgage and my husband's car. Help family and friends and then invest what is left.

I would pay off all bills, buy a house and a minivan first. Then I would build a homeless shelter to help those less fortunate. I would put some into funds for all 6 kids to go to college, maybe some trust funds or IRA's. I would play secret Santa to the poorer neighborhoods and help out the children there as well. I would travel the world, going to Egypt, Paris, and other beautiful places.

Buy a nice house with some land, then I would give alot of it away to people who need it. Like leave a waitress $100 tip after I find out if she needs the money. Talk to people, find out what their story is and what kind of financial problems they were having and help them out.
But I would never tell them I was a millionaire. Takes the fun out of it. Be anonymous when giving your money away. You would get a lot more satisfaction out of helping people than buying yourself a bunch of junk. Store your treasures in heaven.

save in high interest accounts
gamble some more
hire a maid..

I would invest the money, payoff all $500 of my credit card bill, and travel to far off lands, Canada.
