To some religious type people out there...?

Being my 18 old self.. in the city I live in, every friday night all the tennagers come out to go DownTown to hang out by this place we dubbed "The Rock" which is located in a park somewhere near the water front area. Ive been going there for months, Ive made a lot of friends there and from what I see a majority of the kids who do travel down to the rock every friday night are either like me or they are gothic, punk, scene or just plain old kids. Its always been known that people of christian faith travel down to the rock to preach to us and its an absolute aggravation. I talk to all of them trying to explain to them that "They are simply annoying us and that we are just kids.. if we want religion we will find you." Ive tried explaing everything to them but they continue with this bullshit about how jesus didnt allow himself to bediscouraged when he preached to the people of his time. This is wrong, and very contradictory. Why do you consider this right? Are we just subordinate to you?

Lately they have been coming with mega-phones and they even had a christian concert a whole 20 feet from our hang out place. Most of us come from shitty familys and just want one day out of the week to just be kids. But we are constantly being haggled and annoyed and discouraged. Its a shame.

This is not right. This is not some mission, this is an annoyance and its wrong. Should us athiests go to your churches when you are all doing worship and try to convert you all to satanists and athiests? No, I wouldnt think so. Leave us alone.

I dont practice any religion.. I am nothing more than an athiest.

Maybe you should hire Richard Dawkins to come down to The Rock. THen you hire Marilyn Manson and make them promise that if you listen to them for 5 mins they'll listen to him talk to them and they'll find out he is actually highly intelligent, articulate and a good guy.

Failing that just ask them to leave you alone then complain to the cops about harassment.

I can feel your frustration, and believe me, I sympathize 1000%. As a practicing Satanist, I am always bombarded by xtian do-gooders who believe they have the only true answer, and that anyone else is doomed to eternal torment if they don't listen. That's bullshit.

The real answer is within you, and you alone. No one has the right to dictate their beliefs to you. You certainly have the right to ask, but only then should they be allowed to speak. After all, you did not go there seeking spiritual guidance. That's what a church is for, and these people need to get their bible-thumping asses out of other people's space. Next time they approach you, just tell 'em to back off and show you a little common courtesy. It helps if you have a beer bottle to swig after you say it. If they hand you a pamphlet, tear it slowly in half while they watch. Personally, I burn them on my altar. I'm not saying you should invoke Satan--that is a very different matter--but you should certainly invoke your First Amendment right to freedom of religion, which includes no religion if you so choose. GREAT question . . . I'm not religious at all first of all. Honestly I have experienced something pretty close to what you just described and I think its BULLSHIT as well!! But, maybe its because they haven't or they don't hang at a place like "The Rock" and lets face it Gothic and punk really has got a bad rap for drugs, alcohol, suicide and for people basically living by their own set of rules and running a muck. That they see a bunch of kids in denial and headed for disaster or prison.

Believe me the above is not my opinion!! But just trying to see both sides. They may be annoying and may seem like they are cramming garbage down your throats and maybe they are. I don't know. Just try to be patient because quite possibly their preaching is coming from their ignorant heart.

in my town goths and Cristian's kind of annoy me. you have Cristian's in one corner preaching out loud wagging a finger at every thing you do some saying your going to hell. then you have goths in the other corner vandalizing ever part of town and giving all of us teenagers a bad name. its like the crusades Muslims against Cristian's only the Muslims are atheist goths. try the nonviolent approach tell the police these people are harassing you if that doesn't work write letters to the mayor to make a place where kids can hang out.

I don't preach to anyone. If somebody asks, I'll answer, but if it's not brought up, I don't say anything. But I do tell people I'm offended at cussing.
