Being a badass mutha--------- won't cut it. They want leaders.
You must get people to respect you and follow you.
Are you capable of telling others what to do before someone tells you want to do? Will they follow you? Can you lead by example??? If "yes" you're on your way, if not, there's always latrine duty.

Max your Pull-ups, crunches, and run right at the beginning, sound off loudly. Usually, the guide in boot camp tries to keep evryone's crap squared away while the DIs aren't physically breathing down your neck. He, along with the squad leaders, takes more crap than anyone. You will be up on the quarterdeck more than anybody, pretty much, when someone else screws up, you screw up.

If you want to be the guide, don't worry if you aren't selected right away. Boot Camp platoons go through a lot of guides usually. Most often, the first guide is the guy who's last name is first in the platoon, or the tallest, or the toughest looking. They usually bomb out pretty quick, and as the DIs see what people can do, they change them out. If you are given the chance, volunteer to be the Gear Locker recruit, Scribe, or any other extra duty if you want to be noticed. Study hard for the knowledge test, shoot expert, that sort of thing.

If you don't get the slots, don't worry about it too much. Remember, PFC and LCpl are pretty much automatic promotions anyway.

Do as your are told, volunteering, get someone to go in and use you as a ref. You need to talk to your recruiter and he can tell you more.
