well more like she found us. on july 4th we were watching fireworks in a field and she jumped in my car. we drove around asking for hours after, mostly everyone had left, asking if she was theirs. she smelled of beer and obviously had puppies, (she is only 9 months old). we brought her home and placed several ads in the local newspaper, called the sheriffs dept., put up signs by where we found her, called all the animal shelters and humane societies, called all the vets in the area to give them my info. and also called radio stations to announce that she was found. after two weeks of having her there has been nothing. we have fell in love with her and would love to keep her but what is the right thing to do? also note that she was found in poor condition. very skinny, dirty, scabs all over, and she needs to go to a vet. i don't have the money to spend on her if i'm not keeping her. what should i do at this stage of the game?

for those of you who are dumb... "stage of the game" is a term... meaning game of life, ect. please if you are going to answer this question "have a heart" (another term used loosly).

more details... she is a purebred boxer, i'm sure used as a breeder, being that she is only 9 months and has already had puppies. probably also registered. do you know of any laws? i know our pound only keeps dogs 72 hours before they become adoptable.

keep her and give her a wonderful home!! even you said, your local shelter will only keep them 72 hours before adoption, so if she were to have gone to a shelter, shed be either up for adoption, or in a new home by now. her old owners obviously dint take care of her, from the condition you described. she deserves SO much better, and you seem to genuinely care about her welfare; she deserves an owner like you! :) maybe she somehow knew that and thats why she picked your car to jump in! i think you guys were meant to be!! if someone were to all of a sudden come around later, legally, you do not have to return her after so long, and after shelling out your own money like that. im not positive on the time limit for that legal situation, so if youre really interested in that aspect, contact either your local shelter, or local police station; but make sure you have documentation somewhere of when you took "custody" of her and keep all vet records to prove it. good luck, and i hope she has a long happy life with you!!

Try looking through the Lost Dog ads on http://www.dogdetective.com and post a found ad there as well.
Also, take the animal to the shelter and/or a vet to have it scanned for a microchip. If the animal is chipped the owner should be easy to find (shouldn't cost you just to have the animal scanned... sometimes there's a vet associated/attached to Petco.. that's where I had our stray scanned for free).
Speak with your shelter, let them know you'd like to adopt the dog if the owner doesn't claim it. Maybe they can make arrangements for you to be the permanent owner after the quarentine is complete.

It's been only 10 days. I hope the owner has taken care of the puppies, because if not, they probably didn't survive.
You can bathe her and take care of the affordable things like if she has fleas, but I wouldn't put a lot of money into her unless you are going to keep her. I would wait for another couple of weeks. You already did the right things by placing ads and reporting it to the Humane Societies and shelters.
They only thing to do now is wait and hopefully, you will have a new member to your family!

If I were you, I would take her to the vet. Get that part takin' care of. Wait for a full month to go by until you can say that she is yours. If any owner shows up at your house asking for the dog, tell them that may have her back, and, tell them that you paid for the vet treatment. Maybe, they will give you some money, and maybe some reward money. But, to be honest with you, I don't think that anyone is going to take this dog, well, besides you!
I hope that this helps! If you need any help with your dog, such as caring for him, naming him, or, seeing what kind of breed he is, you can email me at: pethelper4@yahoo.com! Thanks, and GOOD LUCK!

I think it is wonderful that you are doing all of this to get this dog back to its owners! You should contact your local humane society, but I think you can legally keep this dog after a week, and it has been two weeks, so I think you should go ahead and get her treated and keep her, and if anyone calls you after that about her, meet them and see if she should go back with them. Maybe if they havn't made any efforts to find her after 2 weeks, then they will let you keep her. Just go forward and wish for the best! God bless

call your animal control again tell them you haven't found teh dogs home and what can be done the area i live in if you have the dog over 7 days it's a stray and after 3 days it can either be put up for adoption or unfortuanatly put to sleep so I think it's legally yours if you want her.

Just a thought...have you checked to see if the dog is microchipped? There is a possibility she has one. You can take her to a vet or a shelter and they should have a scanner to check. Good luck!!

I found TWO beagles the same way....they came to us in our yard malnourished and starving for affection.
These had tags so we called and in the end, they are ours.
Since you have done much to try to find who they belong to and have heard nothing.......enjoy your new friend and addition to your family.........make a vet appointment for shots and get them registered with the town..........
Good luck!

If I were you I would keep her. Obviously the people who owned her didn't take care of her, she deserves so much better than that and its sounds like you can do that for her.

well if it was more like she found you, it was practically meant to be! you should keep her. there ARE pet clinics out there that call for a reasonable price. she was a stray and you took her in and loved her :) bravo :)
