If you sing, you're a singer. If you get paid for it, you're a professional. If you do it simply for the love of the art, you are an amateur, but that does not mean you have any less talent than a professional. If you are twelve years old and want to be a professional however, you are really going to be shortchanging yourself. Tell your friend to give herself time to be a child, to experience the full potential of gaining her maturity before she tries to go our and compete with adults. If you study the careers of child singers and actors, the track record is not good at all. For every one that has a semi normal adulthood (Shirley Temple Black, Dean Stockwell) there are ten to twenty who have disgraced themselves and lost their careers simply because they did not make the transition to adult roles.
If your friend has a great singing voice, tell her to train it and enable it to mature into a truly remarkable adult singing voice. then take the adult singing voice and rock the planet with it. The star that rises too son becomes the comet that plunges to it's doom.

Hi,Im a music tutor in the Ottawa Canada area.
Age has very little to do with if a person chooses to
persue music.
I have vocal students as young as 8 that do very well.
If you are asking about a 12 year old performing live,
then you have to remember that it takes focus and disipline
to perform on stage, its best to start in small steps,ie,performing for family and friends will give a young student a taste of what its like to "put yourself out there"
Good luck
Rob

I have no idea, but if she becomes famous, be aware as she gets older, she may turn into Lindsay Lohan or Britney Spears or any other star who was famous in their childhood and is now ****ed up.
