It is a weekend and you have done all there is too do so you ask your boss/co-workers what needs to be done and there is still nothing except wait on customers. Do you just stand there bored?

That is a good point but the problem is I can't leave the counter. And we have a daily janitor that cleans.

I never had a job where I was completely caught up, you must be really efficient. I was always behind or at least there was always filing to do, or calls or email to return. I guess you could ask your boss if it's OK if you read a magazine, run out for coffee, or return personal email. Or maybe leave early?

As my manager always says, "If you have time to LEAN you have time to CLEAN." Walls, floors, shelves, racks, CEILINGS... booths, chairs, windows... polishing wood... cleaning cabinets... counters... light fixtures... whatever! A clean establishment is a delight to eat in besides meeting Dept of Health standards.

Read Richard Dawkins or Sam Harris. You can also read a great book called "Brave New World" for free at this website

There are always little odds-and-ends tasks to do anywhere... tidying up a display, cleaning a counter, sweeping, cleaning the restroom, emptying trash... SOMETHING!
