Yes...but...

But it is difficult.

There are 9 amino acids that you must have to maintain all of your bodily growth and renewal functions. If you are deprived of any one of them, you are technically malnourished and will eventually suffer from the effects.

This is particularly true of infants and children, who CAN BE RAISED on a vegetarian diet, but with great difficulty *(http://www.scienzavegetariana.it/rubriche/cong2002/vegcon_infant_diet_en.html

*This is a pro-veg page.

All of these aminos CAN be had through a vegetarian diet, but it is difficult.

As little as 6 or 8 ounces of fish, chicken or lean meat can supply all of the amino acids you need for health and well being.

So. The answer is "Yes...but..."

Best wishes!

I really know very little about nutrition, but I'm answering because this is an intriguing question.

I'm worried about the grains you'd miss. I guess potatoes and beans would fill you up. Where do you get your calcium? Broccoli, maybe.

I'm worried about the richness of the soil you're planting in. If the soil isn't enriched (lots of mulch, etc.) then it would need fertilizer. Are you OK with fertilizer. Because the food will come out without nutrition if the soil can't impart the nutrition. i.e. poor soil = poor food.

I don't think I could live without my sugar. And I'm a huge fan of dairy products. That would be hard, too.

I guess it might be done, if it's done right, if the expertise is there.

Seems like I remember a segment on public TV about a family who decided to do just that.

Are you really considering doing this? Good luck either way.

I wouldn't trust it! I mean, they put a lot of chemicals into that stuff; could be harmful to yourself...now if you're talking about the ultimate plant food-manure-I'm sure you could, but would you want to? Yuck!
