Ive got a 10 week old kitten, and although we were told it was female when we got her, the owner also said she wasnt 100% sure, You need to lift up the kittens tail and slightly tip them upside down (not totally otherwise it will cause too much discomfort) preferbly do this after they have slept so they are still alittle groggy and will be less likely to rip your hand up (you wouldnt like someone taking a look at ur privets)

if their is a slight dip (a hole) litrally mm's from the anus then its female, if your not 100% certain take it to a vets (you dont wanna accidently give a male a females name!)

If it looks like a semi-colon - ; - it's a girl

If it looks like a colon - : - it's a boy

Concerned here, though. You would know the sex of this kitten had you brought it to the vet. Whenever you get a new cat or kitten the FIRST thing you should do is take it to the vet - who will tell you whether it's male or female. It needs to be throughly examined and tested for Feline Leukemia. If you have other cats in the home and you're letting it interact with them - and it has this disease - well you could actually kill your cats. FeLv is an incurable and deadly disease and quite prevalent in stray cats and their kittens.

On a female, it will look like she has a little upside down exclamation mark - and on a male it looks more like a colon : as others have said!
A female kitten's vulva has a straight line, and on a male it looks more like a little hole where his willy is.

I just got a new kitten, and am looking after her brother as well for a couple of days - so I've checked them both just to make sure!

It's harder to tell in kittens, as a male's testicles won't be showing until he's a bit older.

I had the same problem with my male kitten until his testicles started coming in last month :-D I had to search online, & this helped... it's a BIT detailed & graphic, so please people, don't look & go "ewwww" if you don't want to see:

Also, my dad thought he was male without even looking because he was more aggressive when he played. I don't think that's the case with all male kittens I've encountered, but that could be a noticeable factor. My female kitty isn't nearly as aggressive... yet.

Lift up their tail, if they have balls they're a male and if they don't they're a female...I was able to tell when they were about three days old.

LOOK DOWN BETWEEN IT'S HIND LEGS. A MALE WILL HAVE 2 LITTLE NUTS IN A SACK UNDER THE SKIN AND A PENIS, AND THE FEMALE WILL JUST HAVE A VULVA. BOTH WILL HAVE AN ANUS OF COURSE.

the best bet is to take it to the vets because it is sometimes quite hard to tell, the vets will tell you. otherwise check under it's legs and she if it has nipples, or not but sometimes this is hard to tell.
