Will prednisolone cause thinning of a dog's coat & make the hair that's left on the back feel rough & bristly?

YES, it can. I would advise checking with your vet - depending on what the prednisolone is for, you may be able to reduce dose and get the same medical benefits without side effects (admittedly many of the things pred is used for are worse than a poor coat!)

Best to call your vet,but most common side affect of pred is increased thirst & eating, leading to more peeing.
Not encountered it thinning a dogs coat.
