Spiders fill a niche to eat disease carrying and crop destroying insects among others. They also are important for certain types of wasps, because without the spiders to lay eggs on, those wasps cannot reproduce.
Large spiders like tarantulas, eat small rodents, snakes and lizards.

oh my sweet eight-legged friends. the only animal that is not known to be useful & doesn't fit into the scheme of things is the human animal. spidies eat insects and other creepy crawlies which in turn keeps the bug population down. what the spider doesn't eat, the frogs & toads (another favorite of mine) load up on. when the toad/frog population gets too large, the snakes (a biggie with me - aren't they lovely?) balance the whole kit & caboodle by eating the frogs as lunch, dinner... birds eat the snakes so see, there is a grand master plan with the flora & fauna. taken in as a whole, i'm sure the birds, snakes, frogs & spiders are still wondering what the heck we humans are doing here. i mean after all, what do we contribute to their well-being (or the planet's for that matter)? by the way, do you know the story behind why spiders are call arachnids? they are in a special all alone class & have an absolute facinating story behind their classification. hint: check out the greek early mythology.
