I was raised in a fundamentalist denomination. As an adult, I had many bad experiences with organized religion, and while I maintain my belief in God, I do not participate in organized religion.
My extended family has had 3 "interventions," my elderly aunt asked if I wanted to return the cross-stitch that she did with a scripture verse on it, and my parents have told my children that I am going to hell. It's really very sad.

When you decided to change denominations or religions(despite how you were raised), how did others react?
Except for my dad, everyone that lived were I lived, was overjoyed. Now your question is hard to really answer completely from the words you chose. Immediately afterward, that is when I got saved, I ceased attending a denominational church and began attending a movement church.

Most of my relatives are catholic. After years of study (including interlinears) and being filled with the Spirit of God,I go where the bible is taught.
My family doesn't like that I don't follow the catholic denomination and put my trust in the pope (instead of Jesus).
Jesus is the only way to salvation.Jesus is the only way to healing.Jesus is the only one to be praised and worshipped.Jesus is the only one to pray to and can forgive sin.A person shouldn't oppose something of God because a man or organiation tells them to.

I didn't change religions, but rather I realized there is no god. I was raised catholic and so I had quite a few confrontations with my mother once I admitted to her that I did not believe in god. But that was about twenty years ago and since then she has come to accepted it.

lets see.... my mom says 'oh, you are one of those holy rollers' HAHAHAHAHA that was the funniest statement.... even my kids laughed cuz we actually werent any different other than we 'had to find a real bible teaching church' because God was in us....
and my inlaws.... well, they said my husband is now going straight to hell, cuz he isnt going to that denomination anymore. and they fully still believe it even tho it has been 20 years!
we go to a C&MA church and it is Spirit filled and mostly doctrine free.... but we 'belong' to Jesus Christ alone!

no one murmered - denominations are similar to school classes, we have to get through them. One day with Grace, you can just be a Christian.
