Umm.......not being one to actually make a point of smelling my cat's butt, I can venture a guess that this area isn't usually smelling like flowers for the most part.

What they eat affects the smell of the poop. Change foods, the smell in the litter box changes. His digestion does the best it can, if you think it's not what it should smell like, I'd look at changing the cat food and see how that works.

The cat might not be grooming itself. I know my older cat who recently died at the age of 20 stopped cleaning herself as frequently as she did when she was younger cat. She did have a tendency to smell bad on certain days.

It may not be cleaning down there and what the cat eats is what the smell is going to be.
