Even the earliest Christians recognized that the original texts were distorted and manipulated. How can people, 2000 years after the originals were written quote these verses that were lost, copied by hand hundreds of times, incorrectly copied, manipulated etc.. The bible cannot be the word of god. It is impossible. Are the brains of people who quote verse smaller than the rest of the populace? Are they mentally handicapped? Whats the deal?

Because they love circular logics.

“The Bible is God's word, because God says so - in the Bible.”
"The Qur'an is God's word, because God says so - in the Qur'an .”
“The Tanakh is God's word, because God says so - in the Tanakh .”
“My essay is without error, because I say so - in my essay.”

Actually, there are scholars who study the transmission of ancient manuscripts, and they tell us that by the advent of printing only about 10% of the New Testament had changed.
Today, we can do better. In 500 years progress has been made, even in this. Those who hunt for old books (called codex) have delivered to the world papyri dating to only a generation after the originals. These indicated that there has been no significant change in all this time. Modern copies of the Greek New Testament are largely printings of Third century copies with these most ancient papyri dutifully considered.
The effort of producing modern bibles is not so much a effort of religion or faith as of scholarship and science. The Bible you find in the bedside table of your hotel room is an accurate and faithful representation of that penned by Moses, the prophets and Apostles.
Whether you believe it or not is your problem, just as it was when Saint Paul handed Timothy a scroll to take along with him on his visits through the towns of Galatia.

Because they don't have a brain to think for themselves perhaps? I'm a Christian, and i am familiar with the text of The Bible but i heave my own head to interpret it with >_<

Edit: Also when i ask a question here, i dont even bother reading answers from people who just take quotes from the Bible, because i have read it, and if i could find an answer to my specific question there i'd just refer to the Bible instead of asking it on Y/A... people come here for opinions and advice that they can't get somewhere else.

"Even the earliest Christians recognized that the original texts were distorted and manipulated."

Care to back up this claim? Because history tells us that you are very wrong as the Bible is quoted thousands of times by historians in the first four centuries.

So please, back up what you say with facts, not ignorance, cause that's all I am seeing at the moment.

I can't speak for those people, but I believe it has to do with one-upmanship in the Christian community. I swear that some can hold entire conversations just by reciting verse numbers.
Same goes for the obsessive fans of Star Wars -- or dudes standing around quoting Napoleon Dynamite back & forth.

When the Dead Sea Scrolls were found they compared the Book of Isaiah to the King James and found it to be right on the money. The Bible is a series of supernatural God controlled writings that have not only survived but represent God speaking to us.

No matter how much it's gone through, the Bible still retains the outlines and general ideas of the original versions. And what's important is not what the quotes say, it's how much those who quote them believe it.

Christians do you think it is immoral for a man to sleep with his wife when she is on her period?
This is one of God's laws:

Leviticus 18:19
'Also you shall not approach a woman to uncover her nakedness during her menstrual impurity .

Psalms 19:7
The law of the LORD is perfect, restoring the soul; The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple .

and

Psalms 119:160
The sum of Your word is truth, And every one of Your righteous ordinances is everlasting.

If we put this all together the Bible says that God's law is perfect and all his ordinances are FOREVER. If something is perfect it doesn't need adding to or taking away which is another command:

Deuteronomy 12:32
"Whatever I command you, you shall be careful to do ; you shall not add to nor take away from it.

The interesting thing is, I know MANY christians who say they believe the Bible and believe it is okay for a married couple to have sex on their period. I think it is messed up how those christians call people sexually immoral for commiting adultery when they are sexually immoral to.

Adultery and sleeping with a woman on her period are both sexually immoral.

Do you realize that you all who are saying 'its not a sin' is taking away a commandment of God and is a sin itself. You all are also saying that God's Law wasn't perfect to begin with so He had to "change it". How can the New Testament contradict the Old Testament? If it did it wouldn't be Scripture. When "Jesus" taught he said "Scripture cannot be broken". He was speaking about the "Old Testament" which by the way is a manmade term.

You all keep saying that "these laws were given to the Jews"...the fact is ALL the commandments were given to the Israelites and if you are a believer you are supposed to be 'grafted into Israel'. That is in the 'New Testament' in Romans. Not only that, but if the Bible says to walk as Jesus walked (1 John) and Jesus was a Jew that means he kept all the commandments and you should as well.

Its plain as day that christians love to treat the commandments like a 'buffet' picking out the ones they like and ignoring the others by saying they don't apply and then call themselves "bible believers".
Please read the following verse:

Proverbs 28:9
He who turns away his ear from listening to the law, Even his prayer is an abomination.

Yes, it does seem impossible that God's unadulterated words could've withstood the milleniums of human imperfection but ya know what? God does the impossible.
