Did you never hear the story of the 4 blind men trying to describe an elephant? One touched the trunk and said it was like a snake, another the leg and said it was like a tree, and so forth.
We all have the light of Christ within us. Some might call it a conscience. When truth is spoken, we hear and follow. That not all have the fullness of the Gospel, is because men turn away from the light. That some will take what they understand and build a faith around it is to be expected.
How does God lead us back toward Him? Through our faith and prayers, we may be lead to those with the fulness of the Gospel.

Religions came about as a way to explain the world, how people fit into it, how to survive in it, why there is death, what happens after we die, etc.
And those circumstances were different for different peoples.
If you lived in an environment that allowed for very little wiggle room for survival, then your idea of God would be different than the idea of God that the people living in a very temperate climate that had lots of uncultivated food available.
And then there is the poetic imagination of the people themselves, which is very different from culture to culture.
Plus, most Gods started out as Gods of place - the spirits of the local water supply, the weather of the region, the local flora and fauna, etc, and those also were quite different from place to place.
Now , the poetic imagination of various peoples (also different from place to place and culture to culture), results in different kinds of heroes and villains, and different tests they go through (although they pretty much all follow the blueprint of the "Hero's Journey as elucidated by Joseph Campbell), so you have different teaching stories. The "moral of the story" will be very different in different environments..
Last, add a bit of the rules to live by (which will largely be determined by the environment), shake well, and viola! you have a religion!
So it's actually quite logical that there would be different gods for different peoples, and very different types of religions.

There have been different religions since the beginning of time.
After Adam and Eve sinned, there children were born imperfect. Some chose to stick to the "true God" and others went there own way.
If you study the early scripture you will find that there has always been a division between "God's People" and those who were not.
Even in Jesus' time there were different religions! But only one true "Way".

it's the work of man ,but it wouldn't surprise me if the devil was behind it to a certain extinct. the differnt religions started because someone one day woke up and said ... you know what i do not believe what i have been hearing in church. i have tried for so long to believe but i just can't. this is what i believe and in talking to some other members they believe the same way so let's talk anout starting our own church with the beliefs we have. then down the road abit someone in that chuerch says you know. i think this church is moving away from what it was when we started it. i no longer believe in what it preaches. i think i'll start my own church.... so this person goes out and starts his own church......and the story keeps repeating itself. so finally you wind up with many different religions. some keep the part of the old ways of the churches before them and some of them totally throw out everything and start from scratch. so what is the true religion? the only way wqe are going to know is when we die and face our Maker on Judgement Day.

I do. According to Islam, this is the answer.
God first sent Ibrahim (Abraham) with the simple message that God is One. We all know that story.
God then sent Moses, with the Torah. After Moses died, the Torah was slowing changed and altered so that it fit the needs of the followers and was no longer the original message.
Then God sent Jesus. Jesus was born to a virgin, with no father. A miracle from God, but not the son of God. He gave Jesus the Bible. After Jesus's death, the same thing happened: the original message was changed.
Then God sent Muhammad. He was everybody's last chance. God told us he would be the last prophet to come to earth until Jesus came back on the Day of Reckoning. God placed his protection on the Quran so that it cannot be changed by human hands, and it's original message has been retained ever since.
I know I didn't explain very well, and didn't go into detail, but I suggest you do some more research on the subject.
I hope you find your answers. Peace be upon you.

Because no one religion suits everybody, people are individuals and have the right to respect and believe in a religion that has values and morals that they wish to live by.

All religion, God, the Devil, it is all the work of man.
As Nietzshe said, "God is dead." Meaning that man created God as an answer to his questions, and eventually killed the concept of God with man's own evil.

I can only speak about what I know and am not a theologian. I am also not talking about the non-Christian religions that existed befor Christianity. Nietzshe was wrong and not based on anything but his opinion. When Jesus Christ was born, that was the birth of Christianity. It also marks the beginning of the calendar A.D. Jesus founded the Catholic Church. After that, there have been people who were Catholic and disagreed about the teachings of the church. They decided to start their own churches using the Catholic Bible and teachings, but tweaking them to suit their needs...Lutheran (Martin Luther), Episcopalian (Henry VIII), etc. Most protestant religions are fairly new and some who claim to be Christian aren't, such as Mormonism. But the fact remains that Jesus Christ Himself founded ONE church, the Catholic Church. There is no one who can dispute that fact. How can you take a chance with your soul once you know that?

Because us humans always have to have an excuse of how not to get along. Therefore there will be war and conquer and peace upon the earned lands of enemies. To categorized minorities and majorities. To belittle others.

Religion: A form of worship. It includes a system of religious attitudes, beliefs, and practices; these may be personal, or they may be advocated by an organization. Usually religion involves belief in God or in a number of gods; or it treats humans, objects, desires, or forces as objects of worship. Much religion is based on human study of nature; there is also revealed religion. There is true religion and false.
Why are there so many religions?
A recent tabulation concluded that there are 10 main religions and some 10,000 sects. Of these, some 6,000 exist in Africa, 1,200 in the United States, and hundreds in other lands.
Many factors have contributed to the development of new religious groups. Some have said that the various religions all represent different ways of presenting religious truth. But a comparison of their teachings and practices with the Bible indicates, rather, that the diversity of religions is because people have become followers of men instead of listening to God. It is noteworthy that, to a large extent, teachings they hold in common, but that differ from the Bible, originated in ancient Babylon. Who is the instigator of such religious confusion? The Bible identifies Satan the Devil as “the god of this system of things.” (2Â Cor. 4:4) It warns us that “the things which the nations sacrifice they sacrifice to demons, and not to God.” (1Â Cor. 10:20) How vitally important, then, to make sure that we really are worshiping the true God, the Creator of heaven and earth, and that our worship is pleasing to him!
Jesus started one true Christian religion. So today there must be just one body, or group, of true worshipers of Jehovah God. (John 4:23, 24; Ephesians 4:4, 5) The Bible teaches that only a few people are on the narrow road to life.—Matthew 7:13, 14. The Bible foretold that after the death of the apostles, wrong teachings and unchristian practices would slowly come into the Christian congregation. Men would draw away believers to follow them instead of Christ. (Matthew 7:15, 21-23; Acts 20:29, 30) That is why we see so many different religions that claim to be Christian. How can we identify true Christians?
The most outstanding mark of true Christians is that they have real love among themselves. (John 13:34, 35) They are not taught to think that they are better than people of other races or skin color. Neither are they taught to hate people from other countries. (Acts 10:34, 35) So they do not share in wars. True Christians treat one another as brothers and sisters.—1 John 4:20, 21. Another mark of true religion is that its members have a deep respect for the Bible. They accept it as the Word of God and believe what it says. (John 17:17; 2 Timothy 3:16, 17) They treat God’s Word as being more important than human ideas or customs. (Matthew 15:1-3, 7-9) They try to live by the Bible in their everyday life. So they do not preach one thing and then practice another.—Titus 1:15, 16.
The true religion must also honor God’s name. (Matthew 6:9) Jesus made God’s name, Jehovah, known to others. True Christians must do the same. (John 17:6, 26; Romans 10:13, 14) Who are the people in your community that tell others about God’s name? True Christians must preach about God’s Kingdom. Jesus did so. He always talked about the Kingdom. (Luke 8:1) He commanded his disciples to preach this same message in all the earth. (Matthew 24:14; 28:19, 20) True Christians believe that only God’s Kingdom will bring true peace and security to this earth.—Psalm 146:3-5.
Jesus’ disciples must be no part of this wicked world. (John 17:16) They do not get involved in the world’s political affairs and social controversies. They avoid the harmful conduct, practices, and attitudes that are common in the world. (James 1:27; 4:4) Can you identify a religious group in your community that has these marks of true Christianity?
