You do not have to disclose this information. It would not be a good idea. It is nothing to be ashamed of, but people still stigmatize mental disorders like depression.
A better idea would be to see your therapist or physician about this issue. See if they can give you medication that will calm you without impairing your ability to work.
Also, know that any new job with many details to perform can be overwhelming for anyone, depressed or not. Try studying. Make index cards about procedures, instruments, etc. and study them at night. In a short time you'll be more confident.
Good luck.

I would tell him. Honesty is always the best policy. You should be able to have an open and trusting relationship with your employer. If he is any kind of a decent human being he will understand. Explain to him that you are undergoing treatment for it and you do not expect it to affect your work abilities. After all he is A Dr. and he has gone to medical school so he does know what depression is all about. He should know that with the right support and treatment plan that it is very treatable and controllable. I Know that in the State that I live in an employer can not fire you for a medical reason, the rules may differ from State to State but I think that the Unemployment Office would back you up 100% if you ever did get fired for depression. On that note I am not saying that you should be able to slack off at your job and get away with it I am just saying I dont think he could ever fire you on those grounds alone. .

I probably would disclose it. Both my general manager and news director at the radio station where I work know, and as a result, they're very accommodating if I have to have a blood test or go to the doctor. They expect me to do well, but they also understand that sometimes the brain doesn't do what the heart wants.
You have to make your needs known. If you don't, they may think you're someone who simply doesn't know what they're doing. I always considered disclosure a part of being responsible, but that may be different in the area where you are.

Not to be mean, but if your job feels so hard that you're feeling overwhelmed to the point of your hands shaking, maybe this isn't the right job for you. I don't think you need to tell him anything, but I think a different office or environment might be better for you.

No way Jose! I say go see a doctor like I did. He'll prescribe you some medication that'll help with the depression and Anxiety!?!?! It may take up to three weeks to really "kick" in, but it will be worth it . You have a "mood" disorder, But alot of people think "mental" disorder. Sometimes it's best to address the problem and "fix" it!

Your boss is a health professional and as a health professional, he should understand an issue with depression. Yes, I would be honest with him. That way, he will know that you are feeling overwhelmed and be patient and understanding. If he has a problem with your problem, he shouldn't be practicing in the health care industry. if he does, I would go in and without notice just quit during the middle of a very busy clinic.

I think he probably sees your are nervous but it is ok to say, "I'm nervous but know I can do the job" but there is no reason to tell him about the depression. Sharing such personal information is not good idea at work, with anyone.
