Our kitten does the same although she never bites hard. I thought that was a dog trait. She spends most of her time avoiding us at the moment......

No, all kittens will do this. They are "mouthy" when young just as a puppy is.

NEVER play with a kitten with your hands - use an interactive toy such as a cat dancer or feather toy. It's very tempting to let those little kitten bites happen as it doesn't really hurt. When the cat gets older it will hurt.

You can start some "training" now though you will be more successful when the kitty is more like three months old. When the kitten uses his mouth on you pick him/her up gently, hiss in its face and put it away from you. You must be VERY consistent with this procedure and everyone else in the household needs to follow the instructions to the letter and consistently.

In normal cat society your kitten will have been "trained" by its mother and its littermates to learn not to bite too hard. Since you are now the kitten's mother and its playmate the training goes to you.

Kittens and cats will do this, yes. I taught one cat that I had not to do this unless I was wearing a glove that I kept for this purpose. If she got too rough when I'd be playing with her without the glove I would just say "Ow" and she would stop. When I put on the glove she knew that it was anything goes and would latch onto it with her claws and bite. So I'd make certain she had the fun playtime with the glove to get out some of the extra energy she would build up that she couldn't release in ordinary playtime.

Just train her from the start and you should be able to do the same thing I did.

Yes you are right. All kittens do this. When kittens do this: OH PLEASE DON'T SCOLD OR HIT THEM! They dont realize that these bites hurt you! Cats as you no are related to big cats, so they are just playing, like cats would play in the wild. Also, cats when they play, they practice their hunting skills. But when a kitten bites you during play, do not move your hand away quickly, your cat will think of it as a GAME and try to chase your hand. If a kitten bites u during play, end the play session IMMIDIATLEY and walk away, letting him or her know that what they did is wrong. tamed my kittens right out of it! If you dont train them, when they get older bitting will become a habit, as their teeth grow longer, stronger and more grown up!

All baby animals bite when playing, even their sibblings. The key is to help teach them that it isn't acceptable while they are still babies because they can develope a nasty habit of biting harder as adults. When they nibble or bite your fingers, hands or clothing, gently flick your finger (like you are shooting a marble on the floor) at their nose and give a 'uh, uh' command to them and then you walk away from them to another location. Since they like attention, they will learn that if they want to play with you and keep you with them, they will need to play your way. Remember this. Any animal does not see you as a human. They see you as a rival. You have to get on their level in order to train them. To them, you are just one of the pack and as kittens they are learning how to someday take over the pack. That means that they will always rival for leadership in one way or another, be it dog or cat. If you play games with them like a ball or feather on a string, always make sure that they never win and keep the toy but that you always have the last say and the last laugh. I have been training kitties for years. They are actually easier to train than dogs. My kitty that I just had to put to sleep because he had a terminal sickness, would jog around the neighborhood on a leash with me and also knew how to play all sorts of games and do lots of tricks. The two I have now are learning to do all of them now. None of my cats have bitten me because they were taught not to as kittens. Did you know you can also teach them to play with you without extracting their claws when they play. You teach them the same way you do with the biting, by tapping their paw when they extract their claws. You can teach yours too. Good luck.

each from time to time kittens can get excited and chew your hand or kick with their back feet whilst playing. Use a string to coach them no longer too yet some nonetheless do whilst playing. they'll boost out of it in some months, lots of the time. good success.

Spaghetti woke me up at 4am this morning, wanting to be cuddled and played with, I was having a bout of insomnia so it was okay, but she purred and patted at my face with her paws and would bite my hands, her brother Jet (who leaves on Monday to go to a new home) is the same, he bites my hand while we're playing and he bites his sister when they're playing so I assure you that it is perfectly normal and it's nothing to worry about, if they get too rough, just tap their nose and say "no" in a firm voice and they'll get the message!

Yes! Almost every kitten bites you because they like the taste of your fingers and it helps your cat get there teeth stronger.
