Beth's ideas are great! You could also plant something. Read a story about growing things, like Round the Garden and then let the kids plant some seeds. Radishes sprout and grow quickly. You could have the kids plant them in cups to take home with them. Or you could have a "dinosaur dig". Read a story about fossils and hide some plastic dinosaurs in the back yard. Then let the kids search for the dinosaurs. As soon as they find one or two, they could get a small prize, like M & M's or a balloon or a pencil and a small note pad. This is a great project for you and your friend to work on! Congratulations! Keep it up!

Create a teasure hunt game. Make a map the kids can piece together with clues to go hunt for the buried treasure! This works on reading skills, following directions, and map reading skills. The treasure can be some inexpensive trinkets from the dollar store.
You can also discuss archaeology and digging for fossils or ancient ruins. Dinosaurs are a big interest for kids of that age group.

A cool idea might be if you have a park with a sandbox nearby, you could bring the kids there and have a sand-castle building contest. Or (this might be gross, but little kids like it) get a small plastic box (like tupperware with a lid) and get some dirt and put some earthworms in there, they make burrows and stuff and the kids can see how worms live, and maybe after for a snack you could make mud pie (chocolate pudding with oreos and gummi worms) for a snack. hope this helps!

make foil flowers!!! to do this you need to have them draw, color and cut a flower top. then you have the kids twist the botem of the flower top and that's when the foil comes in! give the kids each a piece of foil. have the kids twist it up into a foil stick. then you have them make a hole at the top of the foil to place the flower top in. then have them crunch the top of the stick so the top stays. then before you know it you have a foil flower!!!!!!!!!
