My female 12 week old Boston Terrier puppy weighs only 5.5 lbs....is this considered small for the breed?

Mine didn't weigh much more than that at that age. She was around four pounds at two months. She ended up growing to be around 20 + pounds.

I have seen all sorts of sizes in that breed. Mine was a little on the thinner body size. She didn't have that thickness of body that many of them do, but she was quite tall. Normally I saw bigger Bostons than mine when we were out. However I live in Alaska and much of the year it is too cold for them to be outside much. There may be many smaller ones in town but I wouldn't see them that often especially if they did not live in my neighborhood. The snow we have on the ground the majority of the year is hard on their paws so of course the ones I saw out walking would have been the hardier ones.

I lost my Boston about a year ago. They are sure great dogs aren't they? The best of luck with yours; I am sure you will enjoy each other for years.

that sounds about right.

My Crested was about 5 pounds when he was 12 weeks.. he is now 15 pounds. Bostons are small dogs, but not teeny-tiny pocket dogs, so he will probably grow to be 15-20 pds. That is the correct size for a boston.

Yes it's considered small....because she's a puppy! :) Give her time to keep growing, but if you're worried she's not eating enough, cook garlic and put a tiny bit in her food...she'll be attracted to the smell. And you can always take her to the vet if you're unsure.
