When we would give our cats medication we would break it up and put it in a food that our cats were guaranteed to eat, like small pieces of chicken or beef. The reason I say break it up is your cat is less likely to smell and discover it and thus eat around it.

Cats are very finiky with medications. My kitty has been on medications for quite some time. The tricks to get them to take meds depends on the type of med. If it is in pill form, get one of those long pill inserters from the pet store. They are about 8 inches long with a blue rubber tip and the bottom has a pusher. Put the pill into the rubber tip. Hold the cats head at the scuff of the neck and shove this into their mouth sort of down past their tongue back and release the bottom. POOF the pill is down the throat. If it is a powder form you can put it into a syringe with a little bit of warm water and wait it to disolve and then scruff the neck and put the solution down the throat of the cat. That works on pills too. Be sure to get it into the back part of the throat or it will just gag it up. Holding their mouth shut and blowing puffs of air into their nostrils until they swallow will help with that. You can try getting kitty pill pockets from the vet too. They have them for cats but my cats eat around the pill anyway so they don't work as far as I am concerned. Kitty's chew too much where dogs just gulp it down. I learned all these tricks from my vet tech daughter.

Is it a powder or liquid? Mix with soft food. If you can catch your cat, sort of sit on your cat. I know it may sound mean but to give my cats meds, this is what I have to do. Actually even wrapping it in a towel, legs and all would help. Once you're on it, gently pry open it's mouth and squirt the med down there. Now if it's a pill, coat it in butter first. It's easier to go down then. Hold your cat's mouth closed. Massage it's throat. Sometimes it takes me a try or 2 but eventually I get the med in.

As far as Advantage, I have my husband do it. I help him catch the cats. We close any doors around us, try to even confine them to one room so you can get them easier. Again, sit on your cat without crushing him and squirt rather quickly on the base of its neck and rub in once or twice. If you see that he gets a little crazy and starts moving his head and it gets in his face, just wipe off with water. If it gets in his mouth, he will likely start to foam at the mouth a bit. My vet said it's normal but it still freaked me out. If you notice a LOT getting in his face or eyes or mouth, call a vet ASAP.

Good luck!
