Depends on what kind of food you're feeding your dog. If you're feeding your dog food that contains by-products and corn your dog WILL poop 3 or more times a day. Which is normal when you feed a food that is loaded with fillers. Try feeding a higher quality food like...
Canidae
Innova, Evo
Wellness
Eagle Pack Holistic Select
Azmira
Merrick
These foods i guarantee will make your dog poop less. It will be pooping on average 1 to 2 times and maybe even every other day. Sure these foods are a little more expensive but not by much. But at least you won't be cleaning up poop constantly and your dog will be more healthier in the long run.
The foods that will cause your dog to poop more is...
Science Diet
Eukanuba
Iams
Pedigree
Alpo
Ol'roy
Purina
Baneful
and basically any foods that can be purchased at a Grocery store.

Usually when an animal deficates more than once every day or every other day it usually means that it is getting to much bulk or ash content in its food. Not all pet foods are the same and not all of them are really that good for your pet. Dog and cat foods are the worst ones out there for putting fillers in the the food for bulk. Ash content usually means that the food company is using other things to make the food go further and cost less to make it so that it can be cheap for the comsumer. Well, cheap is as cheap does. The cheaper the food usually means the less real food is in it and definitely the less meat and vegetables are in it too. The more of that stuff usually means more out put in the forms of stools because the body can't use that stuff to stay healthy. That also means more possibility of blockage in the intestinal tract, urinary tract infections and crystals in the urine too. You get what you pay for. Be good to your pet whether dog or cat and be willing to buy the holistic all natural food products out there that are made specifically for their bodies to digest easier and be turned into nourishment sourses for them. That will make less stools because the body is absorbing more than it is letting go to waste. Innove, California Natural, Natural Balance, Wysong, are just some of these good foods out there. If you are currently feeding one of these high quality foods to your dog and still getting a lot of stools, then they are getting too much food for the amount of exercise they are getting or there is a medical problem most likely and they need a vet check up.

It isn't abnormal if your feeding your dog crap. Check the ingredients, if it has fillers, by products or corn. THROW IT OUT. Feed your dog holistic dog food, such as Merrick, Timber Wolf, Eagle Pack, etc. I feed my dog Merrick, I just started him on it no more than a week ago and he poops only 2 times a day TOPS and his allergy/skin rash is gone!! Make sure you check the ingredients on any dog food you buy! Make sure it wasn't n the recall list!!

depends on his feeding schedule. if you leave food out for him all the time, then he'll go at all times of the day. if you schedule is feeding, like he only gets a cup in the morning and a cup in the evening, and you take away what he doesn't eat, then he'll go at more regular intervals and probably less often.

It probably has to do with the type of food you are feeding. Cheap dog foods are full of fillers--you feed more and therefore they crap more.
Higher quality dog foods are designed to make the dog need less and therefore poop less too.

No, that's what dogs do. You might consider putting your dog on a high quality food as it is more efficient than the cheaper brands.

That's completely normal. But, the food might have something to do with it. make sure you are feeding your dog high quality foods, not some crappy brand.

Maybe you need to change the food you give him. I feed a raw food diet and he goes once a day and he's fine. His coat is glossy and he's fit and well.

I don't think so, but that would be a question from you local vet and see if that is normal or abnormal.
