Years ago I heard this re-telling of Number 1. I really love this:

In those days, when people went to listen to a speaker, it was an all-day event...no watches or clocks, so you arrived early and waited, and listened, and stayed.

Naturally, you'd pack a little food in case you got hungry.

Well...partway through the day, folks started to get a bit peckish, and wanted to eat...but no one ate, because they didn't want to have to share (as the rules of courtesy demanded). "If I take out my food to eat, and I share, there will not enough for me", each person thought. "What if I'm the only person who brought food? I won't have enough for myself".

And so they sat, getting hungrier and hungrier, and no one ate.

But then a child stood up and opened his packet of food (fish and bread, in his case) and said "I don't have much, but what I have I offer to any who are hungry"

And at this, the others were ashamed at their stinginess and selfishness, and *everyone* pulled out their food, and offered what they had to the people near them. And when everyone had eaten, there was still enough left for everyone to have second helpings.

The miracle was the unselfishness of that child, and how it inspired others to open their hearts and share what they had.

The GREATER miracle is that any of us - all of us - can do the same, if we only will.

in 1980, the Assemblies of God church that I was going to in a small town in California.
decided to put on a fireworks display on the 4th of July, for the children of the farm workers, that could not afford to go to the larger town for a fireworks display.
the Pastors wife though that it would be a good idea, for us to serve homemade Ice cream and punch as a treat for those that showed up.
unfortunately most of the church members went to the fireworks displays in the larger towns that had large fireworks displays.
so the Pastor's wife and mine were the only ones that brought freezers of ice cream, and my sister brought one bowl of punch.
but 300 farm worker (mostly Mexican) and their children did show up.
the Pastor's wife saw all of those people and decided that there would not be enough to go around, and decided to feed the children first.
we feed the children, and then the parents, and then the church worker that did show up.
after we had all had ice cream and punch.
there was still a half freezer of ice cream and a small amount of punch left over.

what is the greatest miracle?

it is that God loved us so much, that His Son Jesus gave His life for us.

I'm sorry, Uncle Wayne. I'm confused. What is miraculous about saying "Ye who is without sin, cast the first stone"?

If he in fact did feed multitudes, that's pretty miraculous. What would be a bigger miracle though would be if people actually learned #2 and lived by it. I have met few people who understand or live by that teaching.

Every miracle is great. What may seem minor to me may be big to you, Miracles are what are needed, when needed, from a supernatural cause...God.

I just love smiley george's answer. It gave me chills. I think both are miracles. No one is without sin, yet many forget that.
