its not so much about feeling "manly".. its more of a nuturing thing. it just feels good taking care of your wife/girl friend. thats all. its not like were sitting there going, "oh man i feel so manly for paying! oh ya! look at me!" lol..

Actually I think your cousin is part right and part wrong. Yes, men like to feel NEEDED. That's what it's all about - it's not that it makes them feel "manly." Men like to take care of the lady in their life. BUT I think most modern men REALLY appreciate it when a woman offers to pay....even if they don't take her up on it. It's still nice to offer. I know some men think it's rude if the woman just assumes he will always pay. I tend to agree. These days women are proud to be financially independent, have their own careers, money, etc....so why wouldn't they offer to pay some times?

Yes - I've always felt that the person who is asking is obligated to pay no matter what, unless it's an obvious non-date situation. When a woman insists on paying, to me that sends the signal that she doesn't consider it a date and she only thinks of me as a friend. Of course, you're much younger than me, and a penguin, so I'm not sure those same rules still apply!

I think, at least for the older generation it's not so much as feeling 'manly' but just the idea that it's a mans place in society to 'provide'...A man is supposed to provide for his family and perhaps it's a since of pride for the man because if he isn't able to provide he feels like a failure...Hey, if he's willing to pay for your meal, more power to him. If you want to offer it's okay, but, if he insists, why argue?...

Yes - men have been brought up to believe that to be a man, you must be a good provider. Have you ever heard the term "Who's your daddy?" - In a traditional family, doesn't daddy pay for everything? I know that's the case less than half the time in today's reality but traditionally speaking......

Not me.
I haven't actually payed for a girl before but I don't see whats so good about it. Problem is, what if the girl EXPECTS you to pay for it?
If the Guy buys shopping and most other things, then the girl will probably get spoilt because she can spend it on anything she wants.

I pay for things because I have money and my girlfriend doesn't. I do it as a kind gesture, not because I am a man. I pay for my friends with things to, and let them pay for me sometimes. But it all goes back to that i know they should save their money.

Probably, but I think what happens is, the guys ask the girls out, and therefore, the guys must pay for it becuase they were the ones doing the asking.
Kinda like going to the ice cream parlor and saying, 'my treat!' and you pay for everybody.

Get it? Kinda?

if you want the man to feel "manly" and pay for everything; expect to be treated like a "woman" and not an equal. If you want to be treated as an equal... pay for your share of things...
