my cat is 21 years old,he is in good health generally but has started going to the toilet everywhere.Luckily he spends most of his life asleep in the garden, but leaves really stinky little poos all over the place, they are hard to clear up because they are so squidgy and gloopy, they also stink the whole garden out!
In addition he is constantly hungry, meowing outside at 4 in the morning, but will only eat those little foil packets of food.
what to do? he has been wwith me for a long time ,out lived a brother cat ,two dogs, one marriage and is the only pet to my three young children under 7.

Anybody else had a similar problem, how did you solve it

It sounds as though the cat has some gut problem. Get it checked at the vet.

Stink in the garden isn't a problem, just put dirt over the poop. It's outside, after all.

A cat needs to eat every 3 or 4 hours, their systems digest that fast so he IS hungry. If you can't feed him later, see if you can find another food that's dry that he likes and have a bowl of that out so he can snack when he needs to.

Squidgy poops aren't normal, they should be solid. Try offering him some other foods -- like baked chicken broken into small pieces. Anything not spicy or salty or deep fried, those don't work good with cats. He needs to get his poop a lot more solid.

Aww 21 is a grand old age for a cat! I suggest getting the vet to check him thoroughly to make sure there are no underlying medical problems. At a guess though, he is old and that is the probable cause of these problems.

Stinky poos can be caused by low-grade commercial cat food. Can you try him on premium products like Royal Canin or Hills? What about raw beef? My cat loves it.

I was dealing with the exact problem with an older cat of mine. Our solution was to put a litterbox, beneath the desk, in her room of choice. Instead of going everywhere, since she was (and still is) reluctant to leave her "comfort zone" she began going in the litterbox. And are the little foil packets soft cat food? The reason he may only be eating those is because as he gets older his teeth are going to be getting weaker and it's probably easier for him to eat the soft food instead of chewing on hard pieces of dry cat food. Our eldest dog and eldest cat are both on soft food (with the occasional touch of dry food, when they can have it) because it's easier for them to chew.

But, with that said, if the litterbox solution doesn't work than possibly a trip to the vet is in order to get a checkup and see if there isn't something causing him to go constantly. It could be at a point where he just can't hold it in time to make it the litterbox so he has to go where he is.

Well, not had a similar problem in a specific way, but have had a cat who lived to be 21. He had renal failure and was on special food and did really well until just recently, when he didn't eat or drink for 3 days. TOOK HIM STRAIGHT TO THE VET. Very sadly, he had to be put to sleep, it really was the kindest thing. Not saying this will happen to your old boy, but only a vet can tell you the problem. So please take him.

A cat of that age,147 years old in a cat, every organ in his
body starts to shut down and cannot not do it`s job right.
He likes to sleep a lot as his brain dose not work like it did when was young. His teeth will have worn, or are missing thus his preference for soft food.At his age i am
afraid he is in the twilight of his life and just wants to lay in the
sun now.

Take him to the vets as it sounds like he's having problems tolieting and it could be there's something going on that could be easily solved by a vet visit, but be prepared that it could also be something more serious that may end up with you having to have him put to sleep as he is rather old.

Hope this helps and it's all okay for you.

My cat is just the same except she doesn't go outside...She is 22 years old and poops and pukes like crazy! She wakes everyone up if she's not completely satisfied with everything. My cat is fine but cranky, maybe that's just whats happening with your cat...Good Luck!
