It means they were inferring that whatever the person was talking about, they were lying.

It is a little offensive, and it doesn't really men anything. A dingo took a baby girl from a tent in a campsite in Australia. It caused a huge uproar here and an American movie was made about the case. It was the first known instance of a wild dog entering into a campsite with people around and stealing something from a tent. The movie contained the line Ä dingo ate my baby" It gets quoted a fair bit. Its kind of like "I am not an animal" from the movie about the Elephant Man. Tasteless enough to have struck a chord with certain types of people.

It is actually referring to an unfortunate incident which occurred at Ayres Rock, in the early '80s. Lindy Chamberlains baby daughter, Azaria was taken and killed by a dingo. She was unfairly prosecuted by the Australian media and Judaical system and spent time in prison. She has now been cleared, but the Australian public are still undecided about her innocence, due mainly to how she was portrayed in the media.
In more recent years children have been killed by dingos, at locations , such as Fraser Island, but the questions still abound "did she do it"?!
I think it is terrible that it would be mentioned in such light on an American television show, when Lindy now lives in the US and would not see the death of her daughter so lightheartedly!

Well, years ago there was an incident that happened near Aires Rock. A baby was snatched by, they believe a dingo. It "really" has never been solved. The people were blamed, of course at first. Then they did study's and reinactments. There was even a movie made about this. I don't really know why she would make this remark on the Tyra show. I would have had to have heard it myself.

It was also used on Seinfield apparently.
"It is a line from a movie that stars Meryl Streep (she's such a phony baloney!). "A Cry in the Dark"
MS's baby disappears and someone suggests that a dingo ate the baby. They are in Australia so that was the accent."
