Great question Mr. Mom. I live in Texas, where there plenty of legal immigrants. My secretary is one, for example, and she told me that her entire family is angry and aghast at illegal immigration. She has plenty of relatives on both sides of the border, but says the entire family is anti illegal immigration.

I wonder if I am about to learn that my Hispanic heritage, American born secretary is a racist?

The actual word would be Latin because we come from Latin America. Regarding your question of are they racist, to my opinion yes, because they are neglecting their own background. Meaning, even if they were born here, they come from a Latin background, maybe their parents or grand/great-grandparents were once illegal in this country, so if they are wishing that illegal latinos be deported then they must not realize that someday their family was illegal as well. I'm not sure if that answers your question ;p

Now, regarding your question of some people feeling offended or feeling like its derogatory by being called Mexican, maybe its because they are not Mexican hehehe maybe they come from a South American background or Central America, which is very different from being Mexican, even though Central America was once part of Mexico ;p.
Just think about it, some Asian people feel offended when you call them Chinese and that might be because in fact they are not from China, they might just be Filipino, Japanese, Vietnamese etc, but most people think of China when they say Asia and its just the same as for when someone says Latin/Hispanic some people will automatically think Mexico. It could also be that they are just so proud of being a North American from the USA that they would just like to be called an American.

I hope this was of any help ;p

We are not racist. We do not see ourselves as them.
I am hispanic a title I hate btw. I am of Spanish descent. We worked hard just like other American's. My family has been here for many generations. We have sent someone to war for over 100 yrs with my son being the latest.

We have a common religion or had one, and language but the Spanish varies it has grown dialects.

btw if you are born in the us you are NOT mexican you are AMERICAN and we are proud and grateful for that. the mexicans are not. mexican are made up of a mix of indian blood and spanish.

You try having a spanish last name and people asking you all the time if you have a green card, how you came here. BS we are from her we are American's.

We have seen the illegals break laws get amnesty and we give their nation tons of aid dollars all to be wasted.

They want a free ride while American hispanics had to and still have to overcome racism in work, school you name it.

then the illegals demand things we did not get or ourparents and grandparents did not get, free food, free medical, free free free.

get the picture.

just like in any race it is about class and culture.
we have some they do not.
they look for loopholes while we look to be part of the system.

hope that opens your eyes.

Absolutely not racist....Everyone has there own personal reasons why they oppose to support illegals....For some, it is about the rule of law and for others it is about human right and exploitation....I personally see it as exploitation from our govt and business....We demonize these people on one side, while on the other we exploit them for the cheap labor....People in this country tolerated the crimes of U.S. businesses that invited and hired undocumented workers for generations and thoroughly enjoyed having a maintained second-class group to exploit, when, in fact, these same people were being exploited and used by American corporations. The real enemy is our govt and big business, an evil alliance, who are pitting us against each other, and making it a cultural divide...We are all simply the pawns in this game!

One last comment, I am of Mexican descent, I have been asked if I was Italian, Lebanese and Asian....AND NO, it doesn't offend me....People are curious, I don't assume it to be an insult if people don't automatically know I am of Mexican descent, that is just silly....

I live in Texas and I have to say I am very disappointed that my govt has failed Texas. And, of course the other surrounding states. Texas has a unique history and in the past we fought for our Independence. Now, Texas is being illegally invaded and I think this is disgusting. Texas just needs to fight back the horde of illegall immigrants and I guess we will have to do it without your help. It is disgusting to see the Mexican flag fly side by side with The TEXAS and AMERICAN FLAG. Calling all illegal immigrants get out of Texas and take that Mexican flag with you out of here.

No, they are wise people to dislike illegal activity and those who commit the crimes. It is making it harder for them, the ones that have immigrated here legally and become Americans, to live without the stigma that their own places upon them. I know many, many hispanics that don't want to see this bill passed as it would only degrade the quality of the society they live in as well. It is not racism at all. By the way, I'm in California...the hub of illegal highways.

Not against them, all for them coming over to better their lives. What I personally oppose is those who come over waving the mexican flag. I you love mexico so much go back. This is THE GREAT USA! Only one flag should be held high in all it's glory.
