The Catholic church is a "universal church" which means on any day of the week you can go to any church anywhere in the WORLD and hear the same gospel and readings, this is not true in some other churchs. \To correct a few mistakes in another post, we do not worship the Saints, we ask them to bring our request or prayer to God. And the fact they do not have an image on their crucifix. Catholics have an image to remind us we pray to a risen God, not like others believe we worship a dead God.
The original christian faith was an orthodox (Greek) one.
Think about it, all the other religions parted form the catholic church because they were not happy with some particular teaching..such as Henry the 8th. He wanted to marry another woman..the Pope said no..so he created his own religion, which is the church of England or the Episcopal Church.
Methodist, didn't like something in Catholic text..like the virgin birth..so Wesley created HIS own religion.
Catholics can receive communion daily, the protestan religions receive 1x a month (some of them) Yet Jesus said "whenever you are together, do this in memory of me".
There are also some things from the other faiths that catholics accept as fact. Marriage for one (as long as it's a christian marriage).
Baptism is another..if you are baptised Methodist..Ok we accept that as a true baptism.

The simplest answer to your church is the Apostolic Succession. The Catholic Church believes that there has been an unbroken line of succession from Peter to Benedict. They believe that when Peter was given the keys to the gates of heaven and hell that the church through the pope was given power over sin. Therefore entrance to heaven comes through the church.
The Pope was simply reinforcing a long term policy. It does not say that Protestants are going to hell. It simply says that they will first need to go through Purgatory to be updated on some teaching. Hey, if the Pope's right I can handle that - if not we can laugh together in heaven. :)

1) that they do not include all the Blessed Sacraments and confession.
2) that they don't accept Mary as being "the mother of God."
3) that they don't do the Rosary.
4) that they don't interpret the Trinity the way the Catholics do.
5) that they do not accept the absolute authority of the pope.
6) that they do not accept much of the ancient canon and dogma.
7) that they do not worship saints (most of them).
8) that they do not portray Jesus on the crucifix.
I may think of some others later. Probably missed some biggies, but I'll let the Catholics fill in the rest or correct any of mine. I just saved them some writing time.

defect - 2 [Latin defectus] : a lack of something necessary for completeness, adequacy, or perfection : DEFICIENCY
The Holy Catholic Church carries the Sacred Deposit of Faith.
“In giving us his Son, his only Word (for he possesses no other), he spoke everything to us at once in this sole Word - and he has no more to say. . . because what he spoke before to the prophets in parts, he has now spoken all at once by giving us the All Who is His Son. Any person questioning God or desiring some vision or revelation would be guilty not only of foolish behavior but also of offending him, by not fixing his eyes entirely upon Christ and by living with the desire for some other novelty.” (CCC 65, St. John of the Cross)
“Sacred Tradition and Sacred Scripture, then, are bound closely together, and communicate one with the other. For both of them, flowing out from the same divine well-spring, come together in some fashion to form one thing, and move towards the same goal.” Each of them makes present and fruitful in the Church the mystery of Christ, who promised to remain with his own ‘always, to the close of the age’.” (CCC 80)
The only pure unity of the Church is the soul in unity with the Pope. That being said, the Holy See does not finger point. It may justify its doctrine in comparison to the Churches of Luther to make clear the Sacred Deposit to the souls in union with the Pope. It business is the faith it was given and no more. The nature of change without the change of Sacred Tradition is covered somewhat in the following.
“Tradition is to be distinguished from the various theological, disciplinary, liturgical or devotional traditions, born in the local churches over time. These are the particular forms, adapted to different places and times, in which the great Tradition is expressed. In the light of Tradition, these traditions can be retained, modified or even abandoned under the guidance of the Church's Magisterium.” (CCC 83b)
The Magisterium decided to abandon the hostility of other religions at the Second Vatican Counsel. The world in past did not feel any regard to other nations as we do today. Nationalism kept boundaries and this was understood. Economies were more fragile then. Fighting was necessary to keep people in a home and well fed. The Magisterium, rather the Pope is entitled Servant of the Servants of God. And so, he was a protector. People valued truth and salvation in more ways then we can imagine today. It was considered a good to fight over. They did not want there generations ahead to be in hell from errors in belief while they are in heaven. It is reasonable to keep a family together then in all its ways by preserving the integrity of the faith for generations to come. Moreover, Doctrine does not focus on cultures, it is more direct and pure, doctrine focuses on the heart.
If you like to know more about the Churches outlook on other religions I posted a web page link.

Read for yourself.
Here is the full text of the new document that states nothing new: http://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/congregations/cfaith/documents/rc_con_cfaith_doc_20070629_responsa-quaestiones_en.html
Most Christian denominations believe that each of them is the fullest version of the Church of Christ.
While the Catholic Church also believes that she is "the highest exemplar" of the mystery that is the Church of Christ, she does not claim that non-Catholic Churches are not truly Christian. The Catholic Church teaches:
Furthermore, many elements of sanctification and of truth are found outside the visible confines of the Catholic Church: the written Word of God; the life of grace; faith, hope, and charity, with the other interior gifts of the Holy Spirit, as well as visible elements.
Christ's Spirit uses these Churches and ecclesial communities as means of salvation, whose power derives from the fullness of grace and truth that Christ has entrusted to the Catholic Church.
All these blessings come from Christ and lead to him.

Being born again is not Biblical. It's called Baptism, not born again.
Faith alone: "It is easier to fit a camel through the head of a pin, than for a man to get into the kingdom of God". So doesn't that kind of defeat the doctrine of "Faith Alone".
There are many more things, but unfortunately I'm a little to bored to list them all.

If you believe you are the one, true church, as the Catholic church does, any deviation from this would be an untrue church. Historically, the Catholic church was the original Christian church, and each non-Catholic church left the Catholic church for one or more reasons. These reasons, whatever they were, are seen as "defects" by the Catholic church.

As it came across to me when I heard the "German Rottweiler" (what German TV calls him) -- even those churches established by Apostles or Evangelists, such as St. Paul, are wrong because only the church founded by Peter can be the true faith. Makes you pity the poor devil.

There doctrines are different, therefore incorrect. That's what they all say about each other. Pious, sanctimonious, ignorant fools believe in religious doctrines.
