I'm wondering if you have to give in a two weeks notice even though you've only been working for a month. This is in Canada and I'm wanting to quit. I've been working for ONE MONTH at this retail place, how do i quit? Is a notice required? I'm still on probation and I feel like I must quit because there are so many rules, like being 2 minutes late through traffic is no excuse (3 lates during 3 months = terminated), sell a certain price during your work shift (6 hours = $900)... when theres absolutely no commision... even for my sister's wedding i had asked my boss that i need a day off for it but she schedualed me and told me i have to find someone to "switch shifts" with. Can someone give me feedback and answers... both negative and positive.

BTW, MY PAY IS ONLY $7.25/hr.

Yo--$7.25 an hour is no reason not to try and do your best What is wrong with your bad attitude??? There is no excuse for being late...YOu have all day to get their --why the rush 10 minutes before you punch the time clock. Your boss gave you a schedule --those are the days you work. You need permission not to show up. Let me inform you that if you want a job you are an employee not the boss and you have to follow the rules. Just like driving--not allowed to run red lights. Rules of the road. must be obeyed. .

I would still give them two weeks notice.

After your next shift asked to speak with your supervisor. Let them know that you appreciated the opportunity to work for them and that you have found the experience a great opportunity to learn new skills, however you feel it is not the type of work that you would like to continue doing and want to find a different job that better suits your personal career objectives. Tell them you are willing to work your regularly scheduled shifts for the next two weeks, after that you can not work any more.

Be nice, polite and do not say anything negative about the place, your supervisor or co-workers, do not get into specifics about why you are leaving. You want to leave a good impression with them, after all you never know who they may know, they could be friends with the next person who interviews you.

I once interviewed someone who was really rude to be when I was working at a cafeteria at a local gym, for minimum wage. She thought she was above me then. She did not remember me, but I remembered her, do you think she got the job?

Call in one morning and tell them you quit, because It wasn't working out. You don't owe them anything, much less a letter or two weeks notice. Your still on probation, so they are on probation too. Sounds like a sh**y place to work, but be nice about it.
Later in life there will probably be plenty of times when you wish you could quit a job but can't, so enjoy the moment you tell them. Maybe it is worthwhile to do it in person if you are up to it.

Quitting without notice is rude so you couldn't get a reference. Being late is never really right either aim for 15 minutes early and if you hit traffic you are still early. You can sit in your car and read if you don't want to arrive early.
Give two weeks notice but they may let you go, especially in the probationary period they don't want to waste more time training you.

I suggest that you do give a two week notice prior to leaving the position. As bad as it may be to report to work due to the animosity that seems to exist, you may need a reference in the future.

Good luck!!!
