for the reason you said...it celebrates the dark side too much...kids do not separate fact from fiction that well.

The most evil thing about Harry Potter is the slow release dates and short movie formats. The producers should be working over time to shoot while the children are young and the format should have been like Lord of the Rings. The kids can take a vacation after the last movie.
Full of Questions you are wrong. If you do not serve God you serve Satan. There are only two sides in the Religion department. Those who follow God and those who do not. Call it what you will but it matters little it is Satan you follow.

I think some people are just very insecure with their religion and when something new comes along they freak out. I personally think Harry Potter is a great thing because look at the number of kids who are being inspired to pick up a book and read.

Wow, you're so blatantly ignorant and narrow minded- i do no longer additionally be responsive to the place to start. initially, new child's minds are no longer so liable to manipulation that they directly comply with "satanism" or "homosexuality" after analyzing a e book and for the checklist, you are able to no longer effect somebody to be gay or directly. sure, twilight bargains with vampires- yet once you have study the e book you would be responsive to that the full warfare and premise of the plot is finding humanity and morality interior a sinister curse consisting of vampirisim (it is a delusion). I doubt which you're certainly extreme approximately this question, and that i'm helpful you're basically a stupid internet troll yet i think of you may desire to be responsive to what a duche bag you're. have a extreme high quality F'in day.

Sorcery is considered a sin in the Bible, so I guess that is why SOME Christians say that Harry Potter is evil. Glamorizing the practice is what they object to, I think.

Well, I just purchased yet another Harry Potter movie on DVD. I love this stuff. Hogwarts is absolutely awesome. Then again, so was the Death Star, The land of Xanth (Piers Anthony fantasy novels-love it), and the Playboy interview with John Lennon and Yoko Ono.
People need to pull whtever bug they have up their asses, out.
Theist.
For shame. It's damn good entertainment. Enjoy it.

Many religions preach magic. They use the word "miracle" instead. Magical and Miracle are the same. Harry Potter is simply viewed as competition to them. They also cannot comprehend that some people don't have to "believe" in something to enjoy it.

Honestly, I'm a strong Christian and I enjoy HP. There are a couple of kids in my homeschool Latin tutorial that have learned a lot of Latin through HP :-)
I don't think there's anything wrong with it, per se; it's about as much about witchcraft as Star Wars is about astrophysics. The trouble comes in when 1) people who haven't read it start slamming it, or 2) kids who are not yet able to separate fact from fantasy read it.
Although I enjoy it, I don't let my son (9.5) read it because I don't think it's appropriate for him. It does include long passages of hopelessness, feeling abandoned, and teenage angst; these are not things that he's ready to explore in literature right now. He does enjoy books like The Hobbit, Brian Jacques' Redwall series, etc.; it's not that he's not ready for the level of writing (the books he enjoys are on a harder level), but he's not ready for the themes yet.
I do think it's very well-written and fun to read - I read it to my husband - but I don't feel it's appropriate for my son.
And honestly, that's my prerogative as a parent. I normally stay neutral on it in my classes, since my friends also have the prerogative as parents to not let their kids read it.
I don't think it's bad to censor your kids' books, to a point - that's a parent's job, to make sure your kids get the material that's right for them. However, I also don't think it's right to speak out on a book you haven't read - and that's what a lot of people are doing, jumping on the bandwagon.

I think it just bothers them that more people under 25 have probably read Harry Potter than have read the Bible in it's entirety.
