Does anyone know of a picture hanging in a bar in New York of a woman in boxing gloves. I don't recall if Jack was with her in the picture or not. This would be my grandmother! She use to go with Jack "world boxing champion" PLEASE if any one has information get in contact with me. I also have a letter Jack wrote her it on Feb 6th 1921.

Can't help you with the picture - I've never even been to NY!

But, some comments on that letter. Blue devil is right on when he suggests that you perserve it. If it were mine, I'd scan it, and then get the advice of someone who collects paper things like stamps or comic books as to how best to perserve it.

I have no idea how much something like that is worth - a handwritten, signed, vintage letter from Dempsey - but it ain't worth nothin'!

Research of this kind is never easy... you'll have to read through a lot of stuff to find out just peripheral things, unfortunately. Try Dempsey biographies that cover his personal life, and...

Armed with the scan of the letter, you should be able to get some expert help in researching your grandmother and Jack. You could try emailing the scan to the editors of various boxing magazines like The Ring - http://www.thering-online.com/ A scan of a vintage Dempsey letter will certainly be of some interest, and they may introduce you, online, to a top boxing historian who may know, or can find out, what you want to know.

Best of luck to you in your search!

Do you know the Bar? If not I would try to get to the historical society in New York. The reason why, If there is a picture of Jack Dempsey it just might have been appraised, and would be on record.

You are referring to Jack Dempsey one of the greatest champions of all time who held the title from 1919-1926. Hold on to that letter as it has some value to it.
