because one of the people said i had told them to hold it down, when he was talking to the person in the cube next to mine. I did no such thing and am totally shocked how he could say such a thing. I haven't spoken to the man ever except to give him a message from our GM.
Why ?????

Could be a case of mistaken identity. Maybe someone else said it and they thought it was you. Maybe you said something that they interpreted as "hold it down". Either way, they should have confirmed it before going over your head.

I've been questioned for things I didn't do. I usually am able to provide documented proof, but my best defense is to state calmly that I do not communicate with my peers that way, but if I contributed in any way to a misunderstanding, I apologize. I follow up by stating that this is a great opportunity for me to be more mindful of my speech and environment and how it affects those around me.

It lets my boss know I'm willing to be accountable for my behavior and the consequences, but that there could be a different side to the story.

Office politics yuk!! Here you are just trying to do your work and you are called in for some idiotic gossip.

Does your company have a policy on this, do they do this to others, hope you are not in trouble over this but it is obvious someone is after your position. People are not always what they seem, they may smile at you and greet you but once you are out of earshot or eyesight, who knows.

Just keep doing your work as you normally do however do document all things you do, be consistent in things you do, i.e. always initial the work you have reviewed or done.

Lastly unless that person works direclty with you and from your question it seems not, let it ride.
