Yes, Mormons eat chocolate.
I am a Mormon and I chocolate all the time. 100% guilt-free, except for maybe worrying about eating too much fat when I overload on it.
There's nothing taboo about eating chocolate in the Mormon faith. I have heard of a few instances of someone mentioning that chocolate does have a lot of caffeine, but it was in an "FYI" tone.
I was visiting a friend who is a devout Mormon and she offered me some chocolate during the visit. During the holidays, I have made chocolate cookies that are stuffed with a Rolo, and everyone commented on how they loved them and wanted the recipe. NOT a single person commented that I served them up caffeine. I don't think that "issue" even entered their minds, and that is because eating chocolate isn't an issue.
If there is an issue of chocolate it would be more to the effect that eating too much chocolate can be unhealthy for you, not because of the caffeine issue.

Things were fine until the General Authorities changed the word of wisdom from 'optional' to required, and ever since it's been a constant state of flux of "Why is this element 'Bad?'"
"Hot drinks" - reflected the age of abstinence from nearly everything, and the underlying reason must be the devil's own chemical, caffeine. Caffeine is in many recreational drinks, so although those are served 'cold', are considered my many mormons as banned.
Caffeine in chocolate is not nearly as much as coffee, but it's in there. If a mormon wants to appear more holier than you, they will not consume chocolate, and let everyone else know about it.
Curiously, cocoa beans, were the currency of the Aztecs and Mayans, but are never mentioned in the Book of Mormon.

The dietary restrictions in the Church do not include chocolate in general. However, we should not consume anything that is harmful to our bodies. We are taught not to consume habit forming substances, particularly alcohol, tobacco, coffee and tea that all contain drugs that become habit forming or even addictive. Chocolate does have a caffein related substance in it that can theoretically become habit forming but it is much milder than tea, coffee or even cola sodas. So you would have to consume an enormous amount of chocolate to actually become chemically addicted to it. The sugar will kill you before the caffein will.
We joke about chocolate being one of the basic food groups just like everybody else. If we would all live according to the teachings of the Word of Wisdom, we would probably be much healthier than we are. Grains, vegetables, fruits and meats sparingly without all the processed and refined stuff that we are used to, including sugar and chocolate, would serve us well to observe.

first i understand the question because some mormons believe in not eating chocolate. just like some dont drink coffee or soda. does not mean all of them. because i have known many who eat chocolate as well as many who dont. same with coffee and soda. all in the person. just like there are some of us who watch tv and some of us who dont. i dont have a tv and that is my conviction. i am sure it depends on the person and what there conviction is.

That might explain why some of them are pretty big besides having so many kids and being so busy to exercise. They are stressed and have to have some addictive behavior, but then some military spouces I have seen...anyways...some of them keep a good figure and then let it go once they get caught.
