There are no long-term effects to Prozac. A person should remain on Prozac as long as the doctor feels that it is medically necessary.

How long you take a medication is something you and your doctor should discuss. Sometimes the medication is less harmful to you than to live with the affects of the problem you have if you don't take the medication. I take Prozac (five years so far) and I haven't had a single panic attack. That's good enough for me!

As long as your doc recommends you take it. They won't have you taking it for 20 years if after 1 you become addicted to it or ill from it.

This is a question for the doctor that put you on it in the first place, not for someone who doesn't know you or your history.
