A grocery store near my old apartment had radio sensors attached to the wheels of all of their carts. When they reached the edges of the parking lot, a little clamp would would stop the wheel from turning any more, making the cart useless. I guess they were tired of people taking them home.

They should be fined! It is illegal to steal them and it costs the store money to replace them. In many stores around here, they have wheel locks that activate if the cart is taken more than so many feet away from the store. I love that idea!

Last I heard, it costs about $75 per CART for the store. Yes it is illegal, but it depends on the store as to whether they choose to prosecute. It doesn't exactly 'look good' to prosecute a homeless man for taking a cart, know what I mean?

I think people should ask the store first if its okay to take it home - and of course wheel it back and return it once they have unloaded whatever is in it.

Yes, it is illegal, and they ought to be fined! Stealing is against the law.

IT IS CONSIDERED THEFT......
maybe if your things are too heavy to carry...you could
1. call a cab
2. purchase a fold up cart from store
3. call a friend with a car to pick you up.

Yes, it is illegal. If you need to, get their permission first.
