Sometimes in a grocery store or somewhere crowded, I'll gently tickle the sides of a stranger. Mostly it's to see what they do. It's amusing. :)

No it is not acceptable, however, you most likely cannot tickle a stranger anyway. The response to tickling comes in part from having an affection for, or liking, the person doing the tickling. Think about it...if a stranger tried to tickle you, would you enjoy it, or consider it an assault of sorts, a violation of your 'space'?

Not in the USA.
And if you are a girl,
and go up to an attractive guy stranger
and start tickling him, you will
turn him off if he's a nice guy,
or end up getting raped if he's not.
Now, after a few drinks and
a couple hours of intimate
conversation, tickling can be
one heck of a turn-on.
But from a complete stranger...
I think not... no...
You are more than a little weird,
you realize that, don't you?

Although for me personally, I find it intriguing and quite funny to be tickled by a stranger, I agree that it's better safe than sorry. Don't try it, unless you had a very comfortable rapport with the person.

No way! It's rude.
Why would you ever do that?
You have no right to just get in someone's space like that.
It is asking for trouble, and in the workplace, you could be sued for sexual harrassment. Ever heard of rape? Some guys might look on this as an open invitation.

Not the way to win friends, unless you want the wrong kind of people.....
Be careful!

LOL. Great question, but no. I'd think that tickling anyone is socially unacceptable, it's more for an at-home kind of thing.

It's generally considered rude to deliberately touch a stranger in any way.
