Sorry I keep picking on you guys... just since I'm Christian (never really learned about other religions) the atheist religion confuses me the most. I always wondered this though..

Gay marriage is a huge controversy today, and many Christians will be against it saying its against what the Bible says and what not. But, I want to know, how do you guys feel about gay marriage?

it seems quite a lot of people answer questions without reading other comments first. everyone is saying the same thing. i guess it would be better to call atheism a belief rather than anything else. but everyone has their own opinion on everything, of course.

since atheists dont follow the bible, i would assume that they wouldnt feel the need to think homosexuality is wrong. its more of a personal view on the issue, concerning atheists. hope this helps.

Atheism is not a religion. It's a lack of belief in the existence of a specific deity or deities. You, being Christian, are likely just as atheistic as I am when it comes to the existence of, say, Kali or any other god but your own. I just happen to lack belief in your deity as well.

"We" don't all share some standard belief system so you're going to, probably, get a different answer about gay marriage from every atheist that answers. I personally don't have any problem with it at all--why should I? It doesn't effect me in the least if gay people are allowed to marry.

There's not much point in asking atheists such questions and expecting an "atheist" answer. Like I said, the only thing atheists have in common is a lack of belief in the existence of a deity; nothing more. We don't have a "Bible" we all follow, we don't all think alike and there's no dogma that we've all learned.

Atheism is not a religion, it's a lack of religion. Simply put, we don't believe in the existence of a god or gods.

I think gays should have every right to marry. They are people too, although from the way some go on about them you'd swear they were an alien race. It's not right.

I have the freedom to marry anyone who will have me, and I see no reason why gays should be denied the right to be in a legal, binding relationship with the one that they love. I can't for the life of me see how gay marriage threatens others in any way.

I also feel that gays should be allowed to raise families, another right that is being denied them.

1. By starting your question like that, you're almost asking for people that answer to hate on you.

2. Athiests are all kind of separate. Each person has their own personal beliefs, without thought of a higher being or God. There is no "rulebook" for Athiesm.

I am more agnostic than athiest, I think.

I believe anyone that is in love with another person and intends on spending the rest of their lives together should be allowed marriage.
Look how many straight marriages fail. I don't think we deserve to have the tax cuts any more than a gay person.

I'm not technically an atheist, but I don't believe in any religion or in a single deity either. I don't think there's any standard for what atheists believe about social and cultural issues because they're not technically a religion. However, personally, I don't think it's anyone's business what people do in their personal lives, as long as it doesn't harm another person. And I think that anyone who wants to marry should be legally allowed to do so, as long as both/all parties are consenting adults. When Christians say that "the bible says that a marriage is a holy union between a man and a woman," I feel it's judgmental and it's also a mere opinion amidst many other opinions and lifestyles. And for them to think they can "decree" anything about what other people do in their personal lives is very offensive to me. So, anyway, that's what I think.

Atheism is not a religion.

I do not see how gay marriage harms anyone. The only people it seems to bother are those who are bigoted against gays or else those who think it violates some ideology.

Like racists of the past the bigots are just relics from days gone by. They will eventually outgrow their attitude and be replaced by those less hateful.

The idiology that prevents many from even thinking about he possibility of gay marriage is basically a relic of the past as well. Homosexuality doesn't make sense to religionists so they run for the safety blanket of their respective religious texts, most of which were written hundreds of years ago at a time when mankind was *extremely* ignorant of how the world operates.

1) Atheism is not a religion. It is a LACK of religion.

2) Most atheists have nothing against gay marriage. We support the rights of anyone to do what they want if they aren't hurting anyone, and gay marriage hurts no one. There's really no reason to be opposed to it outside of what a 2000 year old book (that advocates slavery, racism, and killing your kids for talking back) says.

Wow every one seems to have he same response. It doesn't hurt me I really don't care about it. What I do care about is a government making a law based on a religious belief. We in this great country have a constitutional right to seperation of church and state. I don't believe that the beurocrats in the big house should have the power to base a law on thier religious beliefs. Remember "christian" the only reason you get to believe freely that it is wrong, is because some people got tired of thier government making them believe some certain way. I think you all who support the ban on gay marriage need to take a look back and realize why this country was founded. It upsets me to think that the religious right thinks they should be in control of everything. If you ask me it is just a little to pompus way of thinking. Religious people want respect for thier beliefs but give no respect to others beliefs. All in all it really grinds my gears.

we are not a group who collectively choose what we believe in. Each Atheist has their own beliefs and morals. Some are pro life, others are pro choice, some are for staying out of the gays business, some are against gay marriage. You see, unlike an organized religion, where you have to agree with what you have been told to believe, and follow their guidelines, Atheists are free to make their own moral decisions.

Well, atheism isn't a religion it's a philosophy as there are no deities nor doctrines.

I believe that marriage should be for all individuals, regardless of sexuality, is a basic human right and therefore it should be a human rights issue. Discrimination is technically illegal in the United States yet this type is allowed to happen and that is wrong.

One of my very best friends is gay, he has been with his partner 22 years - longer than a lot of heterosexual marriages seem to last. I proudly stood up for them when they got married last year in Massachusetts (where they reside).

Marriages should always be about love - not politics.
