What's the name of a "classic" appendectomy, like an appendectomy operation that ISN'T laparoscopic? Is there a special name for this "classic" kind of appendectomy (starting with McBurney's incisions, etc. etc)?

Yup, it's an open appendectomy. I like the term "classic", though. Makes you reminisce for the good ol' days, before everything was done through scopes.

I prefer the classic app'y - we get to leave the room lights on, and it's a quick and easy operation. It can even be done under local or spinal anesthesia (not so with the laparoscopic variety).

The doctors above had already given the answer which is "Open appendectomy" or simply OA - the traditional method and the standard treatment for appendicitis. (While the laparoscopic appendectomy is simply called LA).

You could differentiate it by saying it is an "open appendectomy". But "open" was only added once laparoscopic appendectomies came in to play.

It is an appendectomy performed while the doc is listening to music by Chopin and/or watching ballet.
