YES, and the easiest way to do this is: lay down water-proof floor covering. Get a spray bottle of water, should be warm, a wide scraping tool. Spray the ceiling with the water, don't over saturate but do spray a fair amount of water. Let it set a minute then scrape away. This is a very messy job, Spackle everywhere, water and etc. I think for easy clean up I would make sure I put down a plastic sheet that can just be picked up and thrown away with all of the Spackle in it. Don't forget to go back and prime and paint that ceiling!! Good luck and happy house selling if that is what you are doing.

Popcorn ceilings are very dated, and a nuisance to paint. I don't know that it would actually add value, but it would make the home more attractive to a potential buyer. Especially if it's that popcorn w/ glitter.

Definitely. Popcorn ceilings scream the 80's. Getting rid of them is an easy update.

Popcorn ceilings are used for a reason. There is probably a mess underneath that would cost lots of $$$$ to fix. Prob water damage or cracks. Even uneven ceilings from settling.

Yes, popcorn is totally 1970, putting a texture on will increase the value. Popcorn is easy to take off too, you just scrape it and it comes right off.

actually, alot of folks do the following, take a pole sander and use it moderately on the ceiling,it will create flat spots that look lilke california stucco,or knock down finish as some call it,when you get it like you want just shop vac off the dust and paint, usually gives a decent result,i will warn you it's a dusty job,but anything you do to resolve this will be messy

Hi Momma,
We had pocorn ceiling at our house (Sydney au), and it took ages to clean the butter off.
Now we put the popcorn machine on the kitchen floor and our dog, 'Buffy the pillow slayer' on the bench.
He catches every one of those suckers on the way up!
Hope this helps,
Mantel
