If your megane is new enough to have the filter in the tank I recommend you Don't Touch It.
Earlier types - offside rear, forward of tank.

Buy a Haynes manual from Halfords ~£19

It will identify the location and any special instructions for removing and replacing it.

Filters can be in-line under the car body or in the engine bay.

Ask at your local motor factors to see the fuel filter so you at least know what you are looking for.

Hi

Try looking under the car in front of the fuel tank along the drivers side.

There's one filter in the tank which is under the back seat on the drivers side (UK). You can hear the pump when you turn on the ignition and it's in the same place.
