I get your point and I agree with you. It is not fair that only Hispanics are the ones that are trying to be kept from coming here and told to go home. No one else seems to get that you want to protect both borders.

A fence on the southern border is the first step. Why has it taken so much time to build this fence? Business cartel is against it. Where will American cheap labor come from if not Mexico? Many owners of food stores, road construction, farming are yelling to the Federal government that they will go out of business if they cannot hire cheap labor. The new law in Arizona makes them check the person's social secuity card against a computer readout to insure that he/she is legal. They are balking at this. It can be done easily but it means loss of a large percentage of their work force so they are coming up with stories of how this will kill their businesses. The major portion of illegal immigration is fired by American business and this is the main reason why it is so hard to stop. These illegals are here because they are literally invited here by the farmers and other enterpreneurs who hire them. Cheap labor. Higher profit. Then there is always the worry about terrorists crossing the border (either North or South) and this by itself should resolve the problem once and for all. Our president and Congress know all this but are doing nothing to guarantee that our rights are maintained and that our immigration law is followed to the letter. President Bush is the biggest loser in all avenues of his presidency and we must try to make his life so miserable that he will be forced to begin giving the American people what they require according to the law of the land.

The R word when no answer is acceptable. How many illegal aliens have come across the Southern border 20+ million an the North border i guess the south has the biggest issues.
We need to close all the borders. At least Canada doesn't promote sneaking into our country. All the terrorist had visas didn't they. What's the point.

The TB guy as you call him should serve to remind folks that even those who are on the watch-list can get in, he was supposed to be detained, our border(s) are broken. The reason so many want the Southern border sealed is the steady stream of illegal immigrants flowing into the United States.
I watched a documentary that had camera's set up at one of the favorite crossing spots in Arizona and I must admit that even knowing the statistics for illegal immigration did not prepare me for SEEING the sheer flow across the Southern border on a daily basis.
It is not racist to want to protect our citizens and most people want both border(s) secured but the Southern border is in crisis. Lets face it, we do not have millions of illegal Canadians...

It's like first aid,you take care of the most serious things first. So why worry about the guys broken leg while you should be stopping the arterial spray coming from his severed arm. It's the same with the border. Since 9/11 approximately 23,000 Americans have died due to the actions of illegal aliens,98% of whom came through our southern border. That's just their criminal element, then add in the damage that the rest have done by their presense from creating additional unemployment,to driving down wages, unpaid taxes, Identity theft etc and their very presence is a menace. So it only makes sense to stop the bleeding being created by an open southern border, before we worry about the minor scratches being caused by an open northern border.

Not racist at all. If the Canadians were invading by the millions we would build the fence there. Besides, when the left in this country finally make it communist like they want, the rest of us might want to sneak out to the north.

No need for a northern border. There are not millions of illegal Canadians coming to America. So should we build one just to satisfy your idea of fairness?
Racism is asking questions and inserting the idea of race when race is not even an issue. In order to find racism in the southern border problem, you have to first ignore that they are breaking the law.

Here's my question in rebuttal. Exactly how many people crossing the border - of the hundreds of thousands - if not millions who do every single year, are NOT checked!
My apologies for a long reply.
The problem with this one guy with TB, KNEW he had it, the authorities KNEW he had it, and they still bumbled it to let him fly. It goes less to the overall problem of immigration and more to the problem of incompetence tolerated under the prevailing attitudes so common in this administration, look busy , do nothing.
It's painfully obvious when you travel out of places like Atlanta or Newark where the employees can barely manage to show up. EVERYONE knows - or should - that if you "want" something stolen, all one needs to is check their bag with any high value item (laptop, camera etc) and PRESTO!, homeland security will make sure it's no longer a threat to the nation, most major airports are known to be - decidedly gray - when it comes to baggage "security" on checked baggage.
While certainly many border guards are, I'm sure vigilant and beyond reproach, however, I suspect that some take the approach of those at Newark or Logan or Hartsfield International, and show up , get your $7.25per/hr and just hope nothing happens today.
Put another way, when we consider the hundreds of thousands of illegal immigants into and (presumably) the ill will of international terorrists. One must simply ask, to successfully attack the US economic interests again, what must a terrorist do?
Apply to be human tech-meat for an Indian technical consulting firm and, if you can add two numbers and speak even passable English, you may stand a chance of being sent to America to learn their computer systems?
Should they be clever and secret some operatives into a container cart from Ivory Coast or Cameroon?
Should they get jobs, wear suits, act legit and get frequent flyer registrations as well?
Should they simply learn the MAGIC words, "¿Cómo es usted?"....."Excelente, gracias por pedir." , nothing suspicious there.
But wait, Border security south of Brownsville and San Diego might exist for the purposes of drug interdiction but I suspect it's a WHOLE lot easier to get into Mexico _undetected_ than it is Canada. How many people managed to make it "through" Mexico, from Guatemala, Honduras, Belize, El Salvador, etc, simply by walking - every day?
To be sure, some jungle outpost where the border may not even - exist - in southern Mexico is difficult terrain but not exactly well guarded.
If an Al Qaeda operative walks into town and starts passing out 100 dollar bills to the locals, the poverty in these regions might induce folks to start naming children after them, this is as true in Mexico as it is in downtown Detroit or Camden anywhere in the US where poverty has hold.
So from the perspective of an operative, it's rather clever that they managed to fool a border guard getting into the US from Canada, there are - in theory - checks and balances.
That they don't work is OUR FAULT, a speedy and valid method of getting into the country would appear necessary.
Getting into the US from Mexico is not clever, it's tragic, there is a whole order of magnitude of difference, we have a lot of work to do to even approach the circumstances on the northern border, "where some terrorist managed to get - past - a security checkpoint."
Southern illegals may never see a soul passing through the Sonora or over the Madres, let alone a checkpoint, let alone a competent border guard.
To answer your question, no it is not particularly racist, or put another way, would taxpayers feel less offense if we started the national fence at Seattle and Detroit and work towards some mid-point in Montana?.
It serves LESS purpose to have a fence on the northwestern border than the southwestern because there are not hundreds of thousands of Canadians illegally crossing over the border terrain without so much as having their paperwork checked.
In point of fact, a fence would not prevent much of anything at all, a thick blanket - which you will need anyway - for those cold desert nights, should be sufficient to cover any sharp edges you may encounter while climbing over the fence.
In fact a fence is a practical tool, it may discourage those less able from trying to cross at some “checkpoint” manned by a few cacti and a mouse or two.
But it also encourages people to actually use the border cities and towns. It might even save illegal immigrant lives, because it would be a landmark, and a non-small percentage of people die in the open desert near the border, lost illegal immigrants could “follow” the fence and be sure of direction.
Someday we'll discuss perhaps how some guy snuck into the US from Mexico and snicker about it to ourselves because he fooled a border guard, but at the moment, we are defenseless on the southern frontier and cannot even make the snickering joke.

absolutly not!!! We don't need a fence we need the corp who hire these people to stop hiring them . I am a small buisness owner and I do not use illegal aliens . I think its ridiculas that they are able to stand around all day waiting for someone to pick them up and when they dont get pu they hang around drinking beer. Urinating on the side of the road . If it does not effect you in your community than you really should shut up . And please be careful driving not many of them have insurance or a license so if they hit you and leave you are left with your insurance going up . Wake up america and look at the whole picture from every side . My grandparents came here from Itally the right way why should it be any other way. They have more rights than we do

I don't call it racist to build a fence on the Mexico/US border. But reading some of the comments to this question tell me race is an issue. FOA you haven't got a clue, you sound like a racist! You read of incidents involving illegal mexicans and group all of them together. Now isn't that the definition of a racist. Not all mexicans "break every law in the book." Plenty of other people are "breaking every law in the book."

I am not worried about Canadian borders and the guy with TB is an American.
It's a matter of economics. The average Canadian has an income approx. six times that of the average Mexican.
Therefore, the US does not want to keep that kind of money out of the economy. Besides, in general, Canadians are not looking for work in the US( legit jobs or "under the table")
