Feeding him more than necessary will only make him fat. His genes have already determined how big he will get. He probably had smaller parents. Just love him in spite of his small stature. I'm sure he is still a wonderful pet!
ADD:
The one you WANT him to look like, doesn't look like a Pit - it looks like either a Cane Corso or Presa Canario.

The pit in the first picture is what 99% of pitbull pets look like. Isn't that what it's parents looked like when you picked out your pup? The second picture is either not a pitbull or a freakishly large one but is definitely not the norm.
If you want to "beef up" your dog give him lots of exercise and nutrional food, just like a person. Also keep in mind pit bulls tend to look small in comparison to other large breeds. They usually only get to around 60-80lbs.

I agree with everyone else. The second pic is the pits that people have been buffing up and breeding. The first picture is a more acceptable pit. He'll grow when its time to grow and like everyone said genetics determines his size

the American Pit Bull Terrier was never supposed to look like that genetic mutant you show in the 2nd picture.
the dog in the 1st pic is much more true to the breed.
if you want a huge overdone mutant then you need to get a pup that came from overdone mutants parents. or get a mastiff.
I am so sick of people trying to make the American Pit Bull Terrier something it was never meant to be.

The dog in the second picture you showed looks overweight for a pit bull. The first one looked just fine. I wouldn't worry about the dog's size. As long as he's healthy, don't bother worrying about it and just accept the dog for who he is.
Edit: I also agree that the second picture doesn't really look like a pit.

PomMom is right. Just let the dog grow into his body, if he doesn't get bigger, oh well. Also, I think that dog you WANT him to look like looks more like a staffy than a pit. If you want a stalky dog, adopt an American Staffordshire terrier.

you think thats small? First off is it a male of a female? Males tend to be bigger. I feed my puppy Nutro Max puppy. I also own a pit. I would feed him/her 2 times a day at that age. they also have nutro large breed puppy. Give him her lots of walks,it'll start showing muscles. you may have a staffie that doesnt get that big, ethier way the breed is wonderful! Give it loves for me!

Genetics play the biggest role here. NOT every single pit bull is going to have that "look" In my opinion, that "look" and that attitude from owners is exactly the idiotic Bullsh** that gives PitBulls a bad reputation. It seems to me YOU want to contribute to that stereotype. Following the herd...

Let it grow. My APBT was pretty thin at one year. At about two years she started filling out and getting muscular. She is now filled out and hard as a rock. The last time I had her to the vet she said "she is really a solid dog".
