We have no doubt that Yahweh existed in the pantheon of ancient near eastern Palestine. And he had a wife!! See Did God Have a Wife by William Dever.

And this ancient near eastern god morphed later into a god claiming universal sovereignty, classic Old Testament expression in the later parts of Isaiah.

On similar grounds, I have no doubt that Baal existed.

Maybe they can stage a new Elijah like demonstration on CNN.

We've waited over 2,000 years for such proof... any time you like... we'll be here.

In the meantime religionists have been retreating from reality in the face of science for as long as the fantasy of god's existence has been around. Religionists have spent most of history persecuting scientists as heretics because science consistently demonstrates that the existence of god is not necessary to explain the world around us and that what the bible and other religious texts say is blatantly incorrect.

What does YHWH stand for? Your Hopelessly Wishful Hallucination, perhaps?

what would you do if it proved that any one of the millions of other gods exist. anyway, on what grounds do you base this question. as far as i know there is no scientific basis for the existence of the supernatural and no verifiable evidence, it's just myth, legend and superstition. this question is like saying how would criminals cope if superman was scientifically proved.

Accept it, because athiests don't believe in "believing", they believe in "what is" based on scientific evidence or "what is not" based on lack of scientific evidence. If scientific proof of God were to exist, athiests would have no problem with it and no longer be athiests.

science is not in the business of proving the existence of gods... god would have to stop hiding for that to happen. any word on when that will happen?

The god you talk about does not exist, so cope with it.

As is the case with any other scientific finding, I'll evaluate the data and make my own judgement. Should I agree, I'll continue my research; should I disagree, it's history...
