Yes, depression is a form of psychopathology (i.e., it is unhealthy/out of the norm). This must not be confused with "psychopaths" (e.g., serial killlers). Some depression becomes to severe that it can have psychotic features (e.g., hallucinations and delusions).

Again, the terminology is important here. "Pathology" means something that is out-of-the-norm as far as health (mental or otherwise). "Pathological" does not mean "twisted" or "evil".

"Psychosis" has nothing to do with violence. It means being out of touch with reality (e.g., seeing/hearing something that does not exist).

Will you accept that suicidal depression is both a pathology and is pathological? Depression I think led to my psychosis of schizophrenia paranoia. During the acute phase of the disorder I heard "voices" instructing me to "kill yourself" oddly I shouted back mentally to whoever they were NO! I say oddly because I had in the preceding month or so, tried committing suicide. The fact that I had been extremely depressed at the time I tried it is an indication of the severity of the pathology.

In a very real sense the psychotic experiences of schizophrenia galvanized me into not being depressed so much but having something positive to work toward, i.e. mental health. When a person is clinically depressed they may not realize they are mentally ill (it may seem quite logical to want to end life) but an episode of unwelcome mental voices sure convinces one in a hurry that something is abnormal about their mind and to seek help.

Good luck with your answers, good health, peace and love!

Yes, If the said person is pathological... basically if a pathological person is depressed it will cause a psychotic episode. psychosis can be triggered by any number of things, and so can depression. basically all mental diseases are inter-linked no matter which way you look at it. for instance if you were schizophrenic wouldn't you be depressed?
