A neighbor of mine brought back a jar of salmon from her home in Alaska. I have had it for maybe 5 years? Is it still good? And if so, how do I know if it is cooked or not? And do I cook it?

Vegetarians and vegans do not eat meat. And the last time I checked fish are animals and not plant life.

Also, I wouldn't eat anything 5 years old - that's discusting.

I can only repeat my answer to your first questions about this, TD or not, and add that the Alaskan Mals. is not an apartment breed, or one that can remotely be expected to stay alone at home for 8/9 hours!! And any breeder who will sell you one will not be a reputable breeder. "Sorry but no. And that includes tiny dogs as well. And more especially puppies who need somebody to be there most of the time to begin with. Puppies should not be crated for longer than 2 hours maximum (apart from overnight) either, and adults not for longer than 4 hours, on a regular basis. Puppies need to be able to run around so their bones, joints and muscles develop properly, to say nothing of stimulating them mentally. I'm mentioning crating because a bored dog will be noisy, and destructive, so chances are you might need to be thinking about crating!! If you get a slightly older dog, and maybe arrange to have somebody come in, or put it into a day creche, then this might be just about possible, but otherwise this isn't something I'd want for any dog of mine. Add into this 8 or 9 hours the 8 hours or so you'll be sleeping even if you are home, and that makes for a pretty short time you'll be spending with a dog. And you'll be tired at the end of a working day. As you are asking this on here, I think you really know the answer to this idea."

Shelf Life Of Canned Salmon

2016-11-04 10:12:57 · answer #3 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

Is the salmon canned or in a jar? Was it made by your nieghbor or something from a shop in Alaska? Either way the salmon should already be cooked if it has been preserved. If it has been preserved properly it will last almost for ever. If it is canned and the can is dented or buldging, throw it away. ( it will contain a micro organizum, call clostridium bocholium which you can not get rid of and could make you very sick and could even kill you. If th salmon is in a jar and your nieghbor made it, it should still be ok but if you open the jar and there are bubbles forming on top, throw it away, if it has a funny smell, throw it away. The best thing is when in dought toss it out.

Five year old fish????? You're about to eat something that has been dead for FIVE years???? Think of what would have happened by now had the fish been left dead in its natural state...there would not even be a trace of evidence by now. It would be fertilizing the bottom of a river. That is beyond nasty...that isn't even fit for a starving alley cat. Why do you even have to ask this question?

Canned Salmon is already cooked. (I use it as a change from Tuna Fish...-It just tastes alittle different). I've never eaten canned Salmon that was much over a year old...-& any that WAS, -I gave to my cat (who NEVER complained how old it was!). I don't think I'd "trust" a can of 5 year old Salmon- not even to your cat !!! (Cats won't eat anything that smell "bad" however...-so I GUESS you could try...).

The vegetarian and vegan section has a couple differences between the hunting/fishing/moron section.

This is one.
