r they the same type memory, made by the same manufacture, you could have one unbuffered and one buffered.when your machine will actually only use one or the other.Go to the link below and download it,i usually download it from one of the Florida links, but you can choose which one is closer to you.it will tell you all about your computer.

My thoughts on this:
1. It maight be that BIOS settings are set to see limited amount of memory. Try to get into BIOS and check memory settings (also take a look into motherborad manual if have one)
2. If you have 4 memory slot on your motherboard, usually the second module goes to the next nearest slot. I mean if you have slot like 1,2,3,4 the two modules should be installed into slots 1 and 3 (not 1 and 2). This you can also check with motherboard manual.
3. I think friquensy has nothing to do with this, even if a bus speed is lower that memory speed it means that memory will work on bus speed. The only thing you need to be sure that type of memory is compatible with your motherboard, but I guess if it is, the computer will not boot.

BTW, if you provide the model of you motherboard and the model of you memory modules, it might help to find the answer.

compatibility issues, maybe.

Maybe your motherboard requires the same kind of the 2 rams, i.e.

1. the both should be a single sided or double sided (which means single sided rams have one only one row of chipset and double sided rams have chipsets on both sides.)

2. And, also check the ram's chipset brand e.g. (Kingmax, Kingston, Infiniteram etc)

3. Make sure you have the same frequency of the two, e.g. ( A 256mb with a frequency of 266,333 or 400.)

These 3 are indicated on the ram itself.

Hope it helps!

You may not have intalled the chip correctly when you install it you need to feel something like a click on both sides and the white lever that holds them secure should fit on with out any trouble.
