Collect cardboard (any that would have been tossed or recycled). Cut multiple pieces down into the same size, glue together to make chairs or other furniture. You can add some old wire or other strong long pieces of product you find to support the piece.
New:
I've also taken old t-shirts (ones you love but you just can't wear for some reason) and make them into pillows. I don't think most people are up for sewing, but there is iron fusing so you don't need to sew. It can be really easy.
Or you can take old stuff and use them as pots for plants. Like: Boots, cooking pots, tea kettles, soup or coffee cans, juice bottles, or what ever you have in the recycling bin that can be reused.
* This one does double for the enviroment, because it brings in more plants to clean the air.

I reuse a lot of things that come into my house.
Wrapping paper: spray newspaper comics with hair spray. Let this dry and wrap!
Vases & glasses: my husband cuts the tops off of old bottles with a glass cutter and sands them smooth.
Storage: old plastic containers make great storage for pins, crayons, nails, ect.
Art: take old calendars and frame the pictures. There are a lot of calendars with cute/interesting pictures.....
old cards can be made into postcards, just rip off the side that's written on.....or cut out the pictures from cards to make Christmas tree ornaments.

Try paper mache'. You can sculpt with it and even paint your artistry when it dries. I'm a fiend for worm composters for garbage. No smell and great for the ground and for planting in pots. If you use it you will never need fertilizer and we all know what chemical fertilizer does for the earth.
